  1. The 17h day with a 75°+ dew point continues the record streak since 2016.
  2. With a high so far of 96° today, Newark moves up to the 4th highest number of 95° or warmer days at 18. 3. The HREF has been doing a great job this summer with the heavy rainfall and flash flooding signals. But the locations of the heaviest amounts have been off at times. So we may have to wait until nowcast time to know which areas will see the highest totals with this next event.
  4. Islip moves into 2nd place for most 90° days in August. NYC will probably reach 90° shortly. So ISP will have a 7 to 5 August 90° day lead over NYC. The wet vegetation above the sensor in NYC is really distorting the climate record. You can see how NYC easily beat ISP in 1980 before the tree growth really got out of hand. 9. Just because it gets a sea breeze first, doesn’t mean there are any problems with the temperatures. Wantagh is currently 87/74 with a very humid sea breeze. Farmingdale a little further from the shore is 90/71.
  10. Tomorrow will be the 50th day this year with a 70° dew point. We have never had 6 consecutive years with 50 days before. So the consistently high dew points are a big part of our new subtropical climate.
  11. It wouldn’t be a surprise if we find a way to pick up more measurable rainfall this weekend. There were only two weekends since the Memorial Day weekend with no rainfall. So my guess this is probably a new record for the summer season. 16. You are pretty much just talking about the immediate shore areas. We have had one top 10 hottest summer after another for the last 10 years. Outside of places like JFK, a SW flow can be very hot also. But JFK has been leading the area in highest dew points since the record humidity increase in 2016. So the the higher heat indices at a place like JFK can make it feel as hot without all the 90° days like a westerly flow summer has at the South Shore.
  17. 87/68 here. Once the winds pick up, the higher dew points to our south and west will work in. Thursday into Friday looks like the highest dew points ahead of the front.
  18. I wonder how the Euro seasonal was able to do so well with a summer 500mb forecast for North America issued on May 1st? It turned out to be a battle between the WAR and the ridge over Western North America. People would really take notice if the Euro ever did this well with a winter forecast.

  20. The current heatwave is helping Newark maintain the 4th warmest summer position. This is the first time since 2010 and 2011 that Newark had two consecutive top 10 warmest summers. So the strongest heat is focused west of the Hudson this year rather than east last summer. So LGA and EWR have traded places from last year. 21. The dew points have already begun to rise here on the South Shore. JFK is on track for its first six year stretch of 50 days with 70°+ dew points.
  22. Yeah, looks like a weaker and further SW version of the 1991 perfect storm.
  23. Today will probably be the lowest humidity of the heatwave as dew points are really high to our west.
  24. 1983 held on as the wettest year at JFK since they missed some of the most extreme rainfall in 2011. My wettest 12 hr and 24 hr record was the 10”+ on 8-14-11 in Long Beach. The wettest year at EWR and LGA was 2011. NASSAU COUNTY...
