  1. I fly out of DCA early tomorrow, my incoming plane looks like it will be late but at least it is enroute. Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk
  2. I was planning to leave from NOVA around 2 for Davis tomorrow. How bad do you think the roads will be? Mostly concerned with getting through Mt. Storm/over the ridge.
  3. Just walked down to the Potomac in Sterling. Peepers are out Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk
  4. Just finished walking the dog in the flizzard that just went through Sterling. Wind definitely picking up. I thought it would be fun but that wind is biting. House in Canaan looks quiet, not a lot of wind but we are in the Valley up against the refuge and not on a slope. Jacked the heat up there just in case. We will head up there Sunday. 6. Decorating the house in Canaan for Christmas next weekend. All I want is snow falling while we do it. Mood flakes would do but legit snow would be so much better!

  9. We were planning on hitting Rennfest on Sunday. That's not looking likely but if it can hold out to just light rain/drizzle until mid afternoon on Saturday we will go Sat (assuming all sports canceled). Despite the mud, Rennfest can be fun in the rain with fewer crowds.
  10. not sure about that - proper aerating is 1+ inches deep holes and that's to deep for new grass seeds. New grass seed should be buried no more than 1/4" inch - 1/8 better. And unlike established grass, needs only to be kept moist to germinate. Short showers are better for a new seeding - not a soaking. We've been working on our mostly shaded lawn with a slope/runoff for over a decade with minimal success. Started with a local nursery where the owner who is known as "the grass whisperer"....finally making some progress. It will be a 5 year project to really establish our lawn because of the runoff but it is already looking tons better after only 2 years.
  11. Couple of weeks ago I ended up w a tree limb through my garage roof in Sterling. Tonight my brother ended up w a huge tree on his house in Alexandria. Luckily they are out of town so no one was hurt. Sent from my Pixel 6a using Tapatalk

  16. On my porch in Sterling. Getting dark and wind picking up
  17. And here comes the sun. That was some intense rain and wind but only lasted a few minutes
  18. Sitting in my car near Lowes island. Car is blowing, it's pouring and car is being hit w hail
  19. Deck advice - our deck on new house probably hasn't been touched in over 10 years. It was a mess. This weekend we power washed it and took out most of the grunge, dirt and old stain remnants but now wondering if we should also wash and brighten or if that is a waste of time. There was definitely still some mildew evident when wet but looked ok once dry. I am thinking if we are going through this effort to strip it all down we should do it right but it's about 1,000 SF so no small undertaking to take on extra steps. We were thinking just sanding might be enough to remove the last bit of dirt. Also would you sand before/after the cleaning/brightening? Will it be ok if we clean/sand etc but don't get to staining for a few more weeks? Since we only have weekends trying to find a dry one has been challenging. Any stain preferences? Thinking about Defy. Thanks
  20. I found a couple this year already....but probably not enough
  21. Dark and pouring in Sterling at noon but now the sun is starting to pop out
  22. In Canaan...wet snow and ground is starting to cave. Deck all white but everything else just still wet. Will be happy with snow falling all day tomorrow and playing outside w dog in the snow...he loves it.
  23. We've missed every good storm at our place in Canaan this year...I just want one good storm with snow blowing everywhere and I'm happy to bring on spring.
