  1. I love reading stuff like this...did not think about the significance and rarity of having more snow in November than any month in winter. FWIW, MDT squeaked out more snow in Jan than Nov this season but it was only about 1/2" apart so basically the same thought of how pedestrian the snow fall totals have been this winter.
  2. That is one steep hill! Pretty amazing. Kind of like a tropical rain shower where it rains on one side of the house but not the other.
  3. The NAM continues to suggest we have a frozen storm coming up Wed afternoon and evening...up a bit from the previous Thursday thought. It actually shows significant snow accumulation but I am not buying that yet as 850's are quite warm. If it gets snow through that level it will be wet and fat. I do not see a particularly strong CAD signature at the surface (though at 700MB it is there) vs. simply the front getting past us and the air being just cold enough to have to watch for sleet/freezing rain and the NAM snow storm.
  4. I was at Ski Liberty last evening and it was 26 degrees at the base. Driving home I went through Blue Ridge Summit, which is 1000-2000 feet higher, and the temp spiked to 33 and then back down in the 20's as I go to the other side of the mountain. Valleys rule sometimes. LOL
  5. I think it COULD be an amazing month tracking wise. People are punting this coming week while in reality we could see a frozen threat on Thursday. Today's major temp bust is proof enough that any precip coming our way can be interesting once we get by Wed. If we see that front drop far enough south and dissect the mid to southern MA, we could be seeing frozen threat after frozen threat while most of the MA forum sees rain.
  6. We ended up with approx 3.75". It has continued accumulating all evening and is just now stopping. Perfect evening for a walk. Snow is like sugar. Bill Crosby wrote a song about this type of snow.
  7. :-). I was not thinking your post was meant as a jab I just took it as the way to mention I still feel bad for you guys having to reading the OB's and was kind of chuckling about your buzzing comment as this forum used to be a lot like the MA forum though with slightly less drama.
  8. I had touched on this myself a few months ago shortly after coming back here. On EUSWX we had a forum that was more specific to S Central PA and was compromised mostly of non met's who were into forecasting whether for pay or not. It was fairly technical and somewhat similar to the MA LR Forecasting forum. I have found myself having to hold back here a lot as I recognize this forum is now as much about the fun side of weather as the technical side plus it covers areas which rarely get similar weather where it pertains to snow storms. I feel a bit weird posting about heavy snow (which I am still getting) when people in the same forum are looking at PC skies.
  9. 1/4 mile! LOL. I leave my driveway, take a right, and Maryland is a few seconds. It sucks if you have GPS on as you hear "Welcome to MD" and "Welcome to PA" several times on a few of these roads that wind back and forth across the border.
  10. For the first time this winter I may have more....I am close to 3" right now. Will measure once that "snake" moves by...it is still to the north.
  11. There is a death snake of 25-30 dbZ snows on or slightly north of the Mason Dixon from Cumberland MD to the Adams/Franklin County Line. Unique.
  12. The end to the extreme stuff is getting close but picked up over an in inch in 30 min. Great stuff.
  13. LOL. There were some runs that sat this thing over us for an hour or two as the snow died off to the east and west so it might happen.
  14. Its beautiful. It is finally really snowing. LOL. 1-2"/hr rates.
  15. Thanks, they are just skirting to my south right now. Still moderate snow but not 25 or 30 dbz level. Hopefully the stuff in Central Franklin comes through. It just got here...flake sizes doubled in the last couple minutes.
  16. We shall see...the first part if it went south of my place. Still plenty to the west though.
  17. Route 283 between Lancaster and Harrisburg is closed due to accident(s).
  18. Seems there are 4...yes 4...waves that come into or near PA in the next 10 days. I hope one of them can be pushed south of PA. Most are going to be rain and cutters.
  19. MDT may break over their Feb precip average in the next 10 days alone.
  20. Came across this interesting video the other day...on the Philly board. In case you did not see it. The subject is pinned there with more back story. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4cBZ7FzovYg
  21. Applaud to Fairfax for making the smarter decision.
  22. Still between 1/2 and 1". During the next 4-6 hours is when we are supposed to get several inches so it is go (or no) time. Those 1+" reports from DC were not modeled real well so nothing is off the table yet...good or bad.
  23. Between 1/4 and 1/2" here. Flake size holding us back at the moment. The heavier snow has been down near DC. 1/2 to 1" reports coming out of there.
