A three day thaw with the last 24 hours having dews and temps in the low-mid 40's, sadly... and a third of an inch of rain. It was depressing. You never know where the road will take you. Too bad you weren't in the Tug longer, but even their winters have paled in comparison to avg. You can be guest number 1 but keep chipping away at the wife anyway, she'll relent one day.

Hey, Matt! Depth is right about a foot, with 6 inches of powder on top of 6 inches of frozen hard pack. I had a snow depth of 2 feet for a short while 10 days ago. Lots of winter to go. When are you ditching the east coast and heading back this way?

Yep and I hardly ever keep the big daddies of any species. They’re most important in keeping the lake healthy and balanced and usually taste like crap compared to the smaller ones anyway.

Up until 1998 Teal Lake was used as Negaunee’s main source for drinking water and wasn’t allowed to be fished or used recreationally. Now it’s open to non motorized water craft only - to keep pollutants down I assume. It’s a really fun lake to fish because something is always biting, although I’d say smallmouth bass are probably the most prevalent species but there’s plenty of N pike, perch, walleye, and some muskies as well. I notice a lot of people don’t care for bass but I do. It’s third only to perch and walleye as my favorite to eat, which is why I fish there so much especially in the winter even tho it’s a 25 min drive. Mostly tho I just catch and release. A little over 3” fell here at the house today with another inch or two later this evening, temp back down into the low-teens with gusty northwest winds increasing.

Early in the season it's a gamble. I've fallen through ice up to my waist once before so I try to stay in shallow waters until it's thick. Today the ice is 12". Same lake and almost the same spot late last January. Ice was probably 30".

Teal lake Negaunee in an ice shanty, 15 degrees with moderate snow. Doesn’t get much better.

Cold and windy tonight with light snow showers and 13 degrees. Expecting 4-5" here by Wednesday morning. Nice wintry feel. Ice fishing in full swing.

Low of 4 degrees last night after 3.5" of lake effect snow fell yesterday. Long range doesn't look great up this way with no big storms but a parade of clippers should keep things looking fresh and slowly build back the deeper snowpack. After seeing what the southern part of the sub is experiencing, I won't complain.

Power went out here a little after 5 this morning and is still out. Snow is currently spreading in from the west as the temp drops toward freezing. Lots of sticks and small branches all over the place may just have to wait until spring for cleanup. Solid snow cover still in place but it's pretty battered looking. Sleeping w/o a fan is the worst.

2015 was a pretty slow start with just a few inches on the ground Christmas day. Honestly tho, the snowpack doesn't really start gaining traction until January most years and usually peaks around 45" ish in early to mid March. The deepest was Late-February 2019 with 60 + inches after over 100" in February alone. Cabin up on the Peshekee Grade that year.

Up to 40 degrees. Pretty rapid thaw underway and what a shame too, had a very nice, dense base otg. It won't melt off totally but what a bummer. Waiting for the winds later tonight and tomorrow morning. Usually high winds like this are from the west or northwest/north. I don't recall having winds of 60+ from the south before... lot's of trees, makes me anxious.

Looks like a foot has fallen here so far with a couple more inches likely. Ratios ended up being closer to 8:1 instead of the forecasted 11:1. Storm has not disappointed tho... the snow was so heavy and wet it sounded like rain hitting the windows overnight. There's 24-27" otg. looking out the front door into my yard facing north. I'll snap some more pics when I wake up fully.

Snow just starting to arrive imby. Expecting a foot tonight and 4-6" tomorrow. Should see some really nice rates later on so I'll be up late.

After trending southward for a couple days, looks like most models have shifted back north a little. Beginning to think the chances for a fresh foot of snow are becoming more likely. If so, that would put the snow depth here in excess of 2 feet by late Saturday and with the freeze and thaw pattern upcoming, it will likely harden up the snowpack and create a little extra staying power. At any rate, I don't expect a complete melt off up here next week..

Even more depressing, unless something changes will be the horrible drought next summer.

After an overnight high of 29, it was downhill all day. Temp has fallen to 6 degrees this evening with a fine, low visibility snow falling. At the current rate of snowfall, it might add up to another 1/2" overnight. Between yesterday and today, I measured 10.5-11" of new snow. Many areas of the far western and eastern UP saw a foot from this storm, and combined with the winds it has caused significant issues on the backroads that haven't been officially plowed yet. Deep winter night in the north.

Very heavy snow for the past hour or better at my house. Same band hitting Marquette now.

Saw 5.5" of wet snow yesterday then towards dark the dry slot crept in enough to end the heavy precip for most of the night, then early this morning snow and wind moved in with a vengeance, with another (estimated) 3" falling since then and still coming down but not nearly as heavy. Should see a total of 4-6" today. Both snow stakes reading 15" otg and my season total just under 3 feet now, which is probably pretty close to average for my location.

Lake shadow squashes almost everything here. Occasional ring of fire delivers.

Stayed in the low 20's with snow showers all day that ended up amounting to around 2". Tonight It's 16 degrees with close to calm winds and there's a smell of snow in the air. First winter storm of the season incoming.
