  1. Wish I could say I'm surprised the models have backtracked on cold but that seems to be the theme this year (other than the 3 day cold outbreak) The Pacific is still raging. California is getting pounded by storm after storm. We (foothills of NC) haven't had a decent snow in February since 2015. It just doesn't happen much anymore.
  2. I mean we don't need extreme cold to get snow. One does not equal the other as we all saw last week.
  3. January looks like our typical winter pattern. Warm up-rain-cold front comes through and it cools back down-then it warms up and rains again. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
  4. It's gonna get soggy the next few weeks. Flooding could become an issue
  5. It was 7 at the house again. Coldest stretch in December I can rememeber
  6. It's already 11 at the house before midnight. Much colder than expected tonight.
  7. Not many are talking about it but flurries and light snow is possible in the smokies and SW NC and possibly N GA and the upstate tomorrow evening/night. Some places near could get a dusting to an inch.
  8. Got down to 9 at the house. Feels like Christmas! Enjoy everyone
  9. 13 here. Was supposed to be 12 tonight but I think it will be single digits again. Merry Christmas to all the mountain (and foothills) crew!
  10. Hard to say what it will be at that point. Pacific is still raging and the continent will be flooded with maritime air
  11. Got down to 1 here. Pretty impressive without snowpack.
  12. -7 on seven mile ridge in Yancey county. 6 in Pleasant Gardens near Marion.
  13. Down to 10 here. Think we end up at 4 or 5 if the wind doesn't pick back up.
  14. It's warmed to 20 here. Not that windy here. Days like this I rather live in the foothills than mountains.
  15. Hovering between 17 and 18 here with wind chill between 5 and 10. Don't think it will reach polar vortex levels here back in 2014.
  16. Hope to see some snow covered landscapes from you all in the morning. I'm sure the wind and cold will be the main attraction here
  17. HRRR is almost definitely overdone but -20 to -30 wind chills are possible in Boone. Above 5K there could be -50 or worse. It will be interesting to see how low it goes compared to the guidance.
  18. Folks at Foothills weather don't have us gettung below 10. I think they are wrong on this one. We should easily see single digits even in Marion.
  19. The fact we can't develop a superior computer weather model is pathetic. Even after multiple upgrades it still falls behind the Euro and lately the UK and Canadian too. The fact that many local weather stations and apps go off of GFS data is a sham.
  20. I'm ready for a weak to moderate el Nino. La Ninas are awful 9/10.
