  1. I remember plenty of snow days growing up in the Albany suburbs but I never remember going to bed already knowing school has been canceled. And I’m not old, only a little more than 15 years out of high school. It boggles my mind now how everything is cancelled so far in advance. I remember we’d always start with a 2-hour delay, then go to closing. No way in hell would you be lucky enough to know about it the night before, even if March 2001 was coming.
  2. Ha you guys are brutal and in like the same general area (eastern Mass along ocean)...can’t imagine how little you care about a far away place like Worecester County.
  3. Congrats! You get up on Mt Tom or the Holyoke’s?
  4. The ALB area continues to rake. Can’t wait to see the 2-day Cocorahs Numbers tomorrow morning.
  5. I didn’t need the dictionary on my lap to read Wiz’s post either .
  6. Awesome thanks. Right in that southern Middlesex nook. I always try to envision posters based on their location relative to the county lines .
  7. Touché, we’ll played. Anyone that is seeing snow maybe...lol
  8. Where exactly are you Will? Like relative to the county lines on these radars. I think I know where most of the SNE regulars are but you moved a few years ago and I never figured that out relative to radar... just curious, don’t want the street address lol.
  9. Distinct lack of storm photos in this thread from the SNE team... let’s get some snow shots, plow shots, shoveling, winter storm!
  10. 1.5" here. Looking north can see sky just past your area. If this view is the consolation prize for missing the big snows, I'll take it. Love these Northern Greens. So dramatic looking with the rime.
  11. The reports coming out of there are crazy. A bunch of 20-spots now showing up. NWS Met with 20" now right in the heart of the Capital District at Clifton Park. They have had some big storms lately. All this "The Hudson Valley doesn't snow with East flow at 850mb".... this should put that to bed.
  12. Already nearing 20” in spots just northwest of Albany. Malta in Southern Saratoga County with 20”. Rotterdam with 18”, Glenville with 17”. And it all looks like dense snow. No fluff.
  13. My parents reporting 14” on their deck in the ALB suburbs.
  14. lol at the Albany area... Widespread 12-17” already down and more to come. Huge QPF bomb, ALB with 1.42” QPF from the first round.
  15. Ah thanks! That makes sense. Water being used as the base-line.
  16. 2" more last hour at ALB. 10" on the ground at the airport. One of the more impressive 5-6 hour thumps you'll ever see in Eastern NY. Still at 1/8sm +SN. KALB 020151Z 02008KT 1/8SM R01/5500VP6000FT +SN VV007 M03/M06 A2975 RMK AO2 SFC VIS 1/4 SLP077 SNINCR 2/10 P0008 T10331061
  17. Awesome! What a snow board set-up. Fantastic event for the Capital District. My dad was eyeballing 10".
  18. So cool. Look at the Mass Pike/NY Thruway there... if you are driving from like Beckett to just past the NY state line, it literally is likely snowing when you are driving uphill on the east side of the hill and then sleeting on the backside when you are driving down into the valley on the other side.
  19. Love that image. You can see the small narrow downslope sleet pockets on the west side of some of those ridges where the higher reflectivity returns are amid the larger shield of heavy precip. That's probably an extremely marginal situation aloft where upslope/downslope on easterly flow has just enough effect to turn some narrow north/south pockets to sleet.
  20. Something I've always wondered... maybe someone can explain it.... but how is there still such a temp/dew depression despite such heavy prolonged precipitation? ALB hasn't had anything above 85% RH and is 25/21 despite 1/8sm snow and two tenths of QPF last hour? I would assume that type of precip rate for hours now would near saturated at like 24/24.
  21. Running neck and neck with the Hudson Valley. Albany continues to get destroyed. They have been at 1/8sm +SN and just put another 0.20" in the bucket last hour... 2" last hour and 8" total now. KALB 020051Z 02007KT 1/8SM R01/3000V5000FT +SN FZFG VV005 M04/M06 A2979 RMK AO2 SFC VIS 1/4 SLP092 SNINCR 2/8 P0020 T10391061
  22. Yup that's what I was thinking. Even with some small snow grains mixed in and stuff, probably could put 2-3" of very dense white material down. This time of year, just get the QPF frozen and on the ground. Makes for a great base and very torch resistant.
  23. So that’s one thing I was thinking.... those snow maps don’t include sleet in their totals, only precip coded as snow. You could add 2-3” of sleet to the snow totals the models show. Like if that 3KM NAM has 2-3” of snow, that might be 4-6” of overall accumulation on like 1” water....it won’t add those inches of sleet in.
