  1. It was a good shot. Picnic tables were coldest since January 2004… second coldest February temp since 1954… and only the 10th day since 1954 with those temps (7 in January, 1 in December and now 2 in February). Been almost 20 years since we’ve seen that cold up here, and missed Feb record by 1 degree.
  2. I love snow and winter but I won’t root for more than a day or two of that type of cold regardless of ground cover, ha. I always go for weather that makes people want to be outside and that just doesn’t hit the note. It’s novelty runs out fast. That duration was perfect for a record arctic blast. Speaking of wanting to be outside, also completely get the snowless zones desire for nice weather. That gets folks outside. Mentally and physically, it’s healthy to be outdoors. I’m all in on that stuff.
  3. Good three mile walk via headlamp with the dog this evening on the groomed path out back into town and back. 30F feels like hoodie weather. It’s crazy how mild it feels. 50+ degree rise will do that I guess. First time she’s really been out for more than 1-2 min at a time in past 2-3 days.
  4. Yeah I would too but still very “possible.”
  5. lol yeah that’s a loaded question. Can a climo area that routinely pulls warning events in Feb and March possibly do it in those months?
  6. Reminds me of your constant wisdom that might as well still try to root for snow if it’s possible because the alternative is just horrible weather. Everyone is just over rooting for it though.
  7. Like mentioned yesterday, that’s wild. A 384 hour prog can’t find any QPF to fall as frozen. Not even a tenth of an inch.
  8. Recovered up to 25F in the valley. Feels glorious. Great ski day.
  9. Yeah I check MPV with some frequency and haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary. BTV, MVL, MPV are the ones I generally look at frequency and haven’t seen anything too weird. That one yesterday is a no brainer though.
  10. Zero doubt it doesn’t rain for like 6 weeks straight this summer.
  11. Yeah, one of these doesn’t pass the sniff test in central VT. Very uniform minimum temps, and then a random -13F from MPV ASOS. The only other -13F mins in the state are literally over the water of Lake Champlain and moderated by the relatively warm lake water.
  12. This isn't meant to rub salt in any wounds, because even up here we are on the southern edge of the gradient on many of these runs like the 12z EURO... but it is still mind-boggling how many Day 10 totals have had 0.0" modeled snowfall from like BOS-HFD-POU. Like not even some fantasy half inch thrown in there somewhere. In mid-winter climo. Also feels like the St Lawrence Valley in southern Quebec is at like 150" of snowfall this season.
  13. I went out yesterday for one run to find some fresh drifts. Some big scour led to some knee to thigh deep stuff along the woodlines down the Front. Today was -35F up top and most of the lifts had some sort of cold related mechanical issues that are still on going. Warming up electronics, motors, backup motors, etc. Machinery and stuff does not like sustained -20s and -30s with high winds and some moisture on top of that.
  14. I heard they did hit -40F and was a record. Might be that same thing though.
  15. Cold morning on the hill. Mansfield hit -35F, which I believe is the second coldest reading in February since 1954. The only other one I could find colder was February 12, 1967 at -36F (also the monthly record).
  16. Nice steam devil off Lake Champlain yesterday. There were dozens it looked like from the number of photos that cropped up all day of them in different spots. This shared by Tyler J. a local met:
  17. It’s truly impressive. It’s next level rugged out there. Like your car goes off the road on a drifted section, you lose a foot to frostbite.
  18. Whiteface summit in Adirondacks… -40F and wind chill of -85F.
  19. Mansfield down to -32F and falling slowly. Last -32F was 2016 (Feb). I do not remember that at all, ha.
  20. It truly is something out of like a Nat Geo documentary in some arctic village right now (but with more breweries)… the blowing and drifting snow, streetlights filled with small crystals blowing by fast, streets have snow just sifting through them with only tire spaces bare pavement. Visibility is reduced low but can’t tell if it’s just suspended crystals or blowing snow or icy haze. Sheltered cars have this film of snow on them, like an arctic dust. -18F to -22F on my drive home for area temps.
  21. This is just stupid cold. -21F on the car and just hammering wind. You can tell if you spent even 30 minutes outside right now your life might truly be threatened.
  22. Down to -18F in the base area at 1600ft... seems cold but maybe? -24F at 3,600ft (Gondi top not updating) and -11F at MVL.
  23. -19F and hammering wind. Snow from the arctic FROPA squalls leading to pow.
