  1. Yesterday and Friday were drier with dews down into the 50s… but today Dr Dew has returned. Only some light rain at times, just enough to wet the pavement and make it dark/dreary but humid day. 70/67
  2. 63/60 Looks like we got some light rain of just under a couple tenths last night.
  3. 68/58 down in the valley. 50s up here with jackets on, feels wildly different than yesterday.
  4. 61/55 up here right now. Feels decidedly fresher than it has all week. Just about an inch of rain last two days after more overnight.
  5. It’s raining hard. Woke me up. Approaching 3”/hr rates.
  6. Had some good lightning up here too. Took a while to get here and only dropped a quick 0.25”… but two days of plenty of Thunder and flashes totaling just over 0.50”. Keeps it damp.
  7. That’s my issue too, can’t see over the Spine so it’s hitting 4-5,000ft up… but you see 60kts up there, I can see how as a forecaster you aren’t willing to risk not mixing that down.
  8. lol, that’s what some people around Vermont think a severe thunderstorm is judging by comments on BTV’s social pages. Like if it’s strobing lightning and heavy rain, maybe a gust front, it’s a severe storm. By actual severe definitions storms in New England have to be over-warned at an extremely high rate.
  9. Stepped outside of the A/C onto the porch long enough to take a photo? Should go interview them on camera lol… “I have all of these people who don’t think today is a banner day to pave. But it’s glorious out here, is it not? What do you say to those folks?” ”Frank, can we stuff this guy in the asphalt or is that frowned upon?”
  10. Where else gets routinely exciting weather year round? The thing is each area of the country can get more extremes but all the extreme events don’t happen at the same place over and over. So while it feels like you are missing out, just move somewhere else and watch 10 months of boring weather happen… while still watching extreme events happen around the country where you are not.
  11. Ended up with 0.38" yesterday, just enough to keep the mushrooms happy.
  12. So much lightning… just had another round of close strikes two hours later. Summer evening vibe with constant flashes and Thunder for a couple hours around here.
  13. Good amount of debris on the roads, in my yard and a few good-sized branches down on my way home. Sub-severe wind but looked like what up to 40mph gusts will do to leafed out trees. MVL recorded a couple 38mph gusts and that sounds about right here too, with 50-65mph up on ridges. Coworker and friend sent this from top of the Quad looking due south as the shelf cloud squeezed through the gaps and over the Spine.
  14. Good wind at 3-4kft on velocity. I’m not home but looks like it downslopes off the Mountain and punched some good velocities lower down in elevation on the east side.
  15. Got some weather moving in. Pretty dark out west.
  16. Yeah $2 a day is cheaper than a cup of gas station coffee, for a/c all day? No brainer. I’d pay a decent amount more than that for climate controlled luxury.
  17. Do you know that you actually used significantly more kilowatt hours or is the cost more a function of the price of commodity? I'm guessing it's a blend of both, but would be interesting. I didn't have my heat pump all of last summer to be able to compare, so this year is really the only barometer I have.
  18. It should not be this difficult . Everyone can believe whatever they want to believe in today's world. Statistics are just there for interpretation.
  19. This seems like a semantics argument, not a science-driven temp departure argument. 72/70 and soupy. We are getting crushed with positive departures right now, haha. Normal is 74/49.
  20. The differences were on display when I was in Europe… there was a bunch of stuff that I was like no way in hell would that fly in the United States. And people would be like why not? Why can’t those people be doing maintenance on a hotel roof 100 feet off the ground with no fall protection? It’s their choice. Lol. People and companies get sued day and night in the US… and some of it is good, better workers rights/OSHA stuff, and better safety on consumer products, better building codes, etc. But on the flip side our litigation society means everyone is wondering how liable they will be for every decision. Kid passes out in the heat in a classroom, hits his head, parents are in an uproar because the school knew there was a Heat Warning/Advisory and they don’t have A/C or fans. School then needs to pay that family in a settlement out of court.
  21. How does one quantify that vs normal vs below normal? Below normal to above normal can be the difference between 82F and 85F for highs. Probably running A/C in both cases. Just like in January, you’re heat is still on whether the month is -2F or +6.
  22. Yeah this is going to absolutely torch. +5 type month it seems, ha.
  23. It feels like a discussion where one wants to make sure below normal doesn’t equal cold. Just like how above normal in January doesn’t mean it was hot. But we use departures to measure temperatures, it is what it is.
