  1. stay safe, make sure you protect your chickens from the 15mph wind gusts.
  2. it's a bit on the late side, but you will be fine. you may not see immediate results this year so late in the season, but it will help in the spring for sure.
  3. seems to be happening quick. lots of leaves came down last night and today.
  4. acorn disaster in progress. i had a lot 2 or 3 years ago, this years bounty looks like 2 or 3 times that.
  5. f***-that. i had a cheap midnite high of 67 yesterday. TORCH!
  6. have a cheesesteak, maybe throw some batteries at Santa. What else is there to do in philly?
  7. that event was definitely an interesting one. i was in MHT that day and it was raining with some occassional flakes mixed in. got home and flipped on the Pats game and couldn't believe how hard it was snowing (plus the score!)
  8. You need to get the seed to contact the soil. Just spreading it on top of the grass will be a waste of time and money. Aerate, or dethatch at a minimum.
  9. if you grab the dead grass/turf, can you pull it back, like down to the dirt? stick a shovel in the ground. if you see a lot of rice krispies in the dirt, you still got grubs.
  10. yup. unless you are poking the nest with a stick, they are fairly docile. keep the kids away obviously
  11. Go with the Michelin’s. The Defender LTX is the best tire I ever bought for my truck, and it’s not even close. Very quiet, great in crappy road conditions. Sure they aren’t cheap, but worth the extra coin
  12. cut low (~2-2.5"), rake/dethatch if needed, plug aerate, seed. Then take 2 weeks off from mowing. if you want to do a true overseed, then renting a slit seeder is the way to go. it's hard work, as the machine is quite heavy.
  13. MPM, I always do my overseeding Labor day weekend. gives several weeks with decent temps for the grass to grow, and several weeks until leaf pickup season begins. Tblizz, azaleas are very sun-friendly. i have a couple that see full sun all day long. they are bedded in about 6" of loam on top of 2-3' of sand. my guess is that either yours are diseased, or they just didn't "take" when they were planted.
  14. CON is not SNE, nor is it NNE. so is it N-SNE, or S-NNE?
  15. 1,000,000,000% agree with the bolded. maybe someday we will realize that this is a regional subforum, and that the weather at our nearby climo station may not be the same as the weather at theirs. but we are hot and dewy, so you must be as well.
  16. regarding Dendy's bees, you would know if they were yellow jackets, as you would have been stung by now. nasty little f-ers. there is another ground bee that I have recently seen that burrows into the ground and builds their nest in sandy soil. you can tell by the piles of sand next to the holes. there are likely a lot of them, but they are very docile. sand wasps
  17. i also get up around that time, and just this week have noticed a difference in the amount of daylight. at first i thought it was the gloomy cloudy rainy weather hiding the light earlier this week. but this am it was pretty dark.
  18. don’t do anything with the crabgrass this year. It’s holding the dirt in place. rent a slit-seeder and overseed this fall. Prior to Labor Day if you can.
  19. when I woke up this morning, I could have sworn that I was in New England
