  1. I mean that is just their forecast lol (and to be honest they dont have the best track record at seasonal forecasting lol). But I will tell you one thing. If in the end December does end up mild with subpar snowfall, we will probably never shake the superstition that cold snowy November lead to mild lower snow december's.
  2. Dons Winter outlook Is not terrible, it basically calls for somewhat below normal snowfall but also below normal temperatures in the Great Lakes. Despite the bare ground now, it goes without saying that the region has certainly got a head start in snow anomalies on the positive side, so there is definitely contradiction with a cold and drier Winter that don is predicting vs the above normal precipitation anomalies that many of the other forecasts show. DTX NWS issued their Winter outlook, noting that the 1st 20 days of November were the coldest on record, and stating that December should be milder than normal with less snow than normal, January should be colder than normal with normal snow, and February should have normal temps and normal snow.
  3. Hey now, dont sell your winter short long before it starts lol. You may see more severe winter weather than that. However that said, whats going on in the Rockies is VERY impressive. They are used to October and May snows, as well as January days of 70F, but this is something else. With all the subpar winters Denver has had lately, this might be one of the severest stretches of winter weather theyve had in some time.
  4. Most years areas they get MUCH less snow than you, and less snow than me, get snow before us out in the Plains. Obviously the northern plains get harder hit but even further south. Just how it works, and a sign that Winter is knocking on the door!
  5. The northern plains are set to see a potentially historic snowstorm in a few days that is "unheard of for October" in terms of size and intensity. This is after the more isolated but very intense Montana snowstorm last week. Two unheard of snow storms before mid October!!! Perhaps it will be signs of a wild Winter this year. The northern plains and Western States usually get snow before us, but this is quite an early start!
  6. Yeah last winter did not deliver any big storms here (biggest 6.1") and was below avg in snowfall despite colder than avg temps for the cold season. Despite this i had never seen a winter here with so many ice storms. Ice (outside of a few minor glazes) had been really missing in action for a while here. It was still a fairly "wintry" winter, just nothing exciting in the snow department here. Which after so many years of se mi snowmagnet, i can share some. But im certainly hoping for a snowy winter this year!
  7. Hoping for a good Winter sub forum wide!
  8. That's crazy. At Detroit the total since 2011-12 is a 33.0" surplus. Going back to 2007-08, the last 10 years, Detroit has a surplus of 112.4"! That's assuming this season is done which it may not be. Does anyone have the avg for Toledo? I'd like to see their stats in that time frame. I know chicago is definitely a surplus but probably not quite as high. FYI the lowest back to back winters here was 1936-37 & 1937-38 with a total of 35.5" (12.9, all time lowest, followed by 22.6).
  9. I loved last years tundra winter of deep snow, but outside of the massive Feb 1st snowstorm there werent really any big storms. Now 2013-14 on the other hand, that winter was a haven for one snowstorm after another, We had 6 storms over 6"+ here (4 of the 6 were over 8") so its crazy if Cleveland missed all of them.
  10. Valdez is already the snowiest city in the US (avg 326") yet they are getting record snow for them. Meanwhile, the continental 48 so far this season has seen below to much below normal snowfall nearly across the board.
