without a base, lite fluffy (like LES) hi ratio snow has no density. skis push right through to ground. Tears up carbides (stainless steel/carbide runners) on bottom of skis.
When pingers pile up, it creates that needed base for you to "stay up/float" on top of snow (but not too much snow). Its as you an I often call it the "densifier".
As i actually have about 1.5" ish inches stil otg from last week i'd be fine, but in areas that have lost snow (etown/mt. joy was bare as of friday), the sleet will make the riding super fun, now if it gets too deep, then sleet, it gets challenging as you are now "floating" or carving through the snow. if we get 6-8 then 1-2" of sleet, it will be f'in amazing riding.
