Yeah. They seem to love nesting in old New England homes with wide open wall cavities. Haha. But they will still nest in the ground and some the biggest nest's I've seen have been in the ground. It looks like @kdxkenhit a nest of Eastern YJ because their is no way he would be taking that picture if he hit the german ones. Haha
-
Maybe you guys dont have them up north...yet. I'm referring to these... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vespula_germanica They are the most aggressive wasps out there. I work with people from Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, etc. They claim afrancinzed bees are tame compared to them...
-
I know you probably know this but they aren't native to New England or even the US and I have zero issues nuking their nests. I do home improvement work and they are our worst nightmare when you disturb a nest. I'm going to try and find the picture where I got stung in the face after ripping out a window sill they nested in. Took like a dozen plus stings to my face. Couldn't see out of my eyes or even eat for like 3 days.

I work in Home Improvement and deal with massive yellow jacket nests all the time. Buy a bottle of Taurus SC. The active ingredient is Fipronil which is the same stuff used for flea and ticks on dogs like the brevecta collar. A few second spray to soak the entrance hole and they are gone in 24 hours. They carry the stuff in and it wipes the nest out completely. Its not repellent so I spray the entrance from a distance during the day. They just think it's water/raining and don't bother you. Since Taurus is non-repellent, insects do not detect it and do not avoid it. Over it, they will consume or distribute Taurus SC across the colony. -

Take em up... Look for dewpoints to gradually rise overnight. Therefore it gets uncomfortable again into the morning with dewpoint readings getting into the lower and middle 70s making for quite a muggy feel. Towards late morning most NWP guidance has a break in any shower activity with likely partly sunny conditions developing. This will allow things to heat up quite a bit. By early afternoon most heat indices will get into the middle and upper 90s,with a few locales in urban NE NJ and around NYC perhaps reaching 100. -

Or just take a shower before you got to bed. I read some study that showed it was extremely effective in getting ticks off you and finding them. Nightime when your sleeping is when they most likely are bitting you. -

Yeah I agree. A really amazing country with probably some of the happiest and most laid back people of any European Country. The flight attendant on my Air Swiss flight was fluent in like 6 languages.

From Google AI. In the U.S., heat-related deaths have significantly increased in recent decades, with the number of deaths more than doubling from 1999 to 2023. In 2023 alone, over 2,300 deaths were attributed to heat, marking it as the deadliest year for heat-related fatalities. -

What a summer.. With strong Bermuda high in place, a S/SW flow will allow plenty of moisture to be sent our way. This combined with above normal high temperatures brings some potential for a heat wave, with heat index of 95-100 currently expected Wednesday and Thursday, and 100 to 105 for many spots on Thursday. LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/... ***Key Points*** *While still some uncertainty, there is the potential for a heat wave to continue Wednesday through Friday for many areas with max heat index values between 95 and 100 (2-day Heat Advisory Criteria) for Wednesday and Friday and 100 to 105 possible for Thursday (1-day Heat Advisory criteria). *Relatively active pattern with chances for several days of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. -
