  1. Some smoky and sneaky heat out there today..
  2. They have the best firefighting aircraft and pilots in the world. Why arent we seeing Canadair CL-415 Super Scoopers making runs?
  3. Great day to stick it to Eversource with solar production...
  4. Yeah. Didn't realize how bad it's up North for you guys until I checked the goes.
  5. @dendrite Just watched this and remember you were growing Chestnuts. Apparently there's 4 trees that seem to be blight resistant so there is hope of bringing them back. https://www.ctpublic.org/shows/human-footprint/clip/the-ghost-tree-bringing-back-the-american-chestnut-mzwjuw
  6. I've yet to see or smell any smoke all summer here on the shoreline...
  7. Yeah. They seem to love nesting in old New England homes with wide open wall cavities. Haha. But they will still nest in the ground and some the biggest nest's I've seen have been in the ground. It looks like @kdxkenhit a nest of Eastern YJ because their is no way he would be taking that picture if he hit the german ones. Haha
  8. Maybe you guys dont have them up north...yet. I'm referring to these... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vespula_germanica They are the most aggressive wasps out there. I work with people from Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, etc. They claim afrancinzed bees are tame compared to them...
  9. I know you probably know this but they aren't native to New England or even the US and I have zero issues nuking their nests. I do home improvement work and they are our worst nightmare when you disturb a nest. I'm going to try and find the picture where I got stung in the face after ripping out a window sill they nested in. Took like a dozen plus stings to my face. Couldn't see out of my eyes or even eat for like 3 days.
  10. Warmest July on record for New Haven with a +4.9 for July and an avg temp of almost 79 degrees. Ranked 2nd for summer as well.
  11. Yeah. Was working on a house near BDR last week and everything is torched to a crisp there.
  12. I work in Home Improvement and deal with massive yellow jacket nests all the time. Buy a bottle of Taurus SC. The active ingredient is Fipronil which is the same stuff used for flea and ticks on dogs like the brevecta collar. A few second spray to soak the entrance hole and they are gone in 24 hours. They carry the stuff in and it wipes the nest out completely. Its not repellent so I spray the entrance from a distance during the day. They just think it's water/raining and don't bother you. Since Taurus is non-repellent, insects do not detect it and do not avoid it. Over it, they will consume or distribute Taurus SC across the colony.
  13. Take em up... Look for dewpoints to gradually rise overnight. Therefore it gets uncomfortable again into the morning with dewpoint readings getting into the lower and middle 70s making for quite a muggy feel. Towards late morning most NWP guidance has a break in any shower activity with likely partly sunny conditions developing. This will allow things to heat up quite a bit. By early afternoon most heat indices will get into the middle and upper 90s,with a few locales in urban NE NJ and around NYC perhaps reaching 100.
  14. HVN briefly hit a 58 dew but it's been a spectacular beach day with great rising dew's..
  15. Still waiting for my cool down. Was 88 at HVN all the way up midnight and it's currently 79.
  16. Heat index of 90 already at 6am. Just a special morning.
  17. Or just take a shower before you got to bed. I read some study that showed it was extremely effective in getting ticks off you and finding them. Nightime when your sleeping is when they most likely are bitting you.
  18. Yeah. I was just looking at some July temp departures down this way and MMK, HVN, DXR are all like +5. It's been an absolute furnace down here.
  19. I was traveling back and forth from New Haven to Pt Judith RI this week for work. East of GON has been socked in clouds/mist for the last few days while it's been like full sun HVN West.
  20. It's been full sun from HVN West along the shoreline all day and an amazing beach day here.
