  1. It has been snowing nicely for about 2 hours now with about .2 down. Snow surfaces are staying white and fresh looking. I'll take it. @wdrag nickels are good but this is still just 2 or 3 cents.
  2. ...when you turned them on and had to wait for it to warm up... Yeah, I remember.
  3. Haha yours too? My dog goes a few feet out, shakes a paw and looks back like she can wait as she turns to come back in. I'm good with 3" but it does kind of feel like wasted cold and wasted potential.
  4. @wdrag your freshening bit of happiness is my favorite part of winter I think. Sure, who doesn't love an extreme event but it's those nickels and dimes that keep it looking and feeling wintry and are (mostly) harmless.
  5. It stayed above 0 here on the hill, the lowest station went to 3. Whatever, it's cold
  6. It could work out but it could also be a not quite cold enough modified CP air mass bumping into cool not cold maritime air leaving us with 31-33° rain.
  7. Me too and I guess bust is a subjective term because I remember a fair bit of disappointment until I took some meteorology classes in college. Ooh big bust but then total salvation a month later. That was, far and away, my favorite period of winter weather growing up on LI. The rest was really pretty lackluster outside of a few events and ice storms.
  8. Were you in O'side back then too? Oh heck, that was pretty much the only time it snowed in the early 80's, how could the sidewalks have been that icy?
  9. On the cars it's 2", other exposed surfaces are similar. Yard and driveway are more like 1.5. Snow seems to be done now. They way it was deposited by the north wind makes it much prettier looking south. Looking north everything is just wet and dark.
  10. The way this plastered everything it's gonna be pretty when the sun comes out. It's also gonna be a big pita to clean if you don't get to it before it freezes.
  11. No doubt! We're going to need another oil delivery in 2 weeks, I'm not looking forward to paying for it.
  12. Solidly below 32 now, everything is plastered and freezing up pretty quickly. I'm over 1" now.
  13. I'm at about a half inch already and it's coming down at a pretty good clip. Temp has been falling since it peaked around 5am @ 39° right before it started to change to snow. It's about to drop below 32 so it's just a matter of time before it gets ugly slick out there.
  14. 33/29/NNW3/SN Everything is getting plastered with snow now. It was soggy after 5 hours of rain and now the snow is sticking to every possible surface. It's gonna be all sortsa fun when it freezes up in a little while
  15. I think so. If I'm not mistaken that's when I got my dads Olds wagon stuck right in front of the high school entrance and had to be pushed out. I didn't drive to school again for a month
  16. We haven't had a good ol' 4 Corners Low come bowling across the country in too long. It sure would be nice to see one again.
  17. Still 35 and rain here but radar shows it's snow so I'm guessing it's getting colder upstairs and will push the warmth out soon.
  18. Look here https://www.abebooks.com/book-search/author/JEROME-S-THALER
  19. I don't think I've even hit 6". Maybe but it sure doesn't feel like it. Look up Jerome Thaler. He was from Yorktown and had the most comprehensive stats for the HV going back decades that I've ever seen. I used to buy USGS Topo maps from him because he had a collection better than most museums. I can't imagine he's still alive but maybe... @weathafella knew him too (hey buddy, haha).
  20. I'm well east of the river and have had snow on the ground since then too, I'm a bit under 3" now and don't think I've hit 6" yet for the year but it looks (sorta) wintery.
