  1. This is a mess. I live on a dead end and the cross street is a 20% grade below and nearly 30 above. There were a half dozen cars scattered with 3 in yards. No real damage because they all stopped right off the pavement but the street wasn't even walkable. There was a cop here and he had to walk up a block from the bottom to direct the salt truck and stop more cars from turning onto the hill. It looks better now but it just rained hard for a few minutes and it's still 31°.
  2. Oof. Cars scattered, everything is going sideways and it's raining hard while it's still below freezing. This is going well
  3. Damn it's sketchy out there. The neighbor put the car in gear and moved an inch, next thing you know the car is sliding down the hill and across the street into the yard. It stopped before it hit anything but the old lady was crying.
  4. Hey guys be careful when you step out the door. I've been getting pretty heavy freezing rain and ice pellets for a while now and it's getting scary slick out there.
  5. Oh damn that's not flurries. It's light rain and ice pellets mixed with a few mangled flakes. It's getting louder
  6. I've had a couple of bursts of pretty heavy rain. The first it was 25° when it started and everything froze up instantly then the second round a few minutes later was heavier and it was 27°. I have a feeling that when the sun comes up it's going to be really pretty but scary. Now it's flurrying and 28°.
  7. Ask the people down in VA along the I95 corridor if the fast moving system yesterday limited the effects too much
  8. For me the best warm day to snow is April Fools 1997. It was in the mid 50's here during the day and by about midnight there was 17" of glop on the ground. After a warm March and nearly snowless winter the soil temps were nearly 50* already and the trees were leafing out. It was a disaster...
  9. Damn winter cold and such... My truck blew a critical coolant hose and it's pretty much disabled until I can deal with it. Unfortunately if I take it to a shop it would cost a couple thousand dollars just in labor Can someone order me up a week or so of 60 degree temps so I can do it in the driveway? Man I need a garage...
  10. Welcome to Rob's better year thread Temp is down almost 10* already this morning with a very light N breeze. As the temp hit 45 the fog started to break, my guess is another degree or two and it will finally be gone.
  11. The fog never broke all day, it lifted somewhat over open areas but over lakes and forested areas it stayed dense. Wet and soggy. Yuck. Happy New Years all
  12. This fog is terrible. 200 foot visibility sux.You can hear things rotting away...
  13. It started as light sleet then went to a heavy freezing rain and sleet mix for a few minutes. After that it flurried for a little while and everything was all sparkly like a kids movie, that was cool. It didn't last long before it changed to rain
  14. It flurried and grappled from the TZ bridge right down to about Westwood NJ while I was driving down this way. It's sorta clearing now at the Meadowlands.
  15. Popped above and the worst of it washed away quickly. Now it's dense fog @ 33°. Beautiful...
  16. I just went to take the garbage out, I got 3 feet and left the bag there because it's a solid block of ice so I turned around before I fell. 32/ENE2/RN-
  17. I've got light rain falling and it's 29°. Everything not covered with snow was glazed in the first 2 minutes. Looks like fun
  18. I'll get out with the ruler in a little while but it looks like a bit under 1" and it's still showing lightly. 24/NE2/SN-
  19. Tough call on the temp, it varies by 5° in a half square mile area from 23-28, SSE 3-5 and snowing nicely. Good flake size and it's starting to accumulate.
  20. Stayed warm and wet here. That's ok Drying nicely now with the sun through thin clouds.
  21. So that icy map posted sort of rang true. It was probably one or two degrees too cold because the crunchy stuff only made it down to the road level (Rt 17) twice, when the road goes over 1500 feet. The icy areas forecasted on the map were but it was above the valleys. By taking 17 to 390 I was able to stay just south if the frozen precip and skirted it until we crossed I90 in Rochester. There's 1" of frozen garbage on the ground up here now.
