I honestly don't know what I'd rather have at this point. Emotionally it's going to be snow but then life in America will move indoors and I don't want that, I want to be able to keep.eating outside at restaurants. Maybe the early snow curse is a good thing this year.

It's snowing here from long reach lake effect streamers with this wind. The harder the wind blows the more flakes fly and it's ripping down what's left of the leaves so it's a colorful snowfall. Cool stuff.

Who else is seeing snow? I love when lake effect streamers make it all the way down here.

It melted off here before the temp dropped and then it did a fair job of drying out so I missed the event It was nice and crispy with a really thick frost though. It has been a steady rain since about 10 this morning but only up to .4 so it's been pretty light. Things are finally back to that thoroughly soaked point from last spring but 20cm down the moisture is still pretty low. I'll get a soil moisture reading after it ends tomorrow, I got a new cool electronic tool for the garden that should also work for this purpose if I dig a little hole.

Yeah I think it's best left for slug food at this point. Most of that bed will be turned in next week and left to compost itself other than the carrots which should make it through a freeze. I love when storms end with a really good, big flake, heavy blast and this one isn't going to disappoint.

Got a good moderate to heavy blast moving through right now but the temp is up and the earlier accumulation is melting back pretty quickly. I went outside and made a few snowballs and tossed them at the wilted mess that my garden is. Tomatoes have lots of new flowers, strawberries are still flowering and look pretty happy but parsley and cilantro are laid over, carrot tops are squashed (but ought to come back just fine if the freeze doesn't get 'em and the potatoes don't seem affected at all. Ya gotta toss a few snowballs the first and last snows of each season, it's a rule

It's still snowing but the flakes are small and the visibility is back up to about 1/2 mile, further if looking south than north. Temp seems to have stabilized at 33/34. .5" on grass and elevated surfaces, what had started to accumulate at the edge of the street has already melted back.

Ooh good reminder, gotta turn the water off to the spigot too. My lettuce and tomatoes are probably goners

Down to 32/33 now and pretty much sticking to everything with huge flakes falling at a pretty good clip. I think some of the local stations are freezing up because the precip amounts haven't changed in the last hour or so.

34/W5-7/SN The slushy coating is already starting on cartops and bushes. Third accumulating snow for Halloween in 10 years and none for the previous 20 before that. Yay for AGW

34* W5-7 SN All snow now and the temp is dropping pretty quickly. I haven't been out and I'm not going to but I bet those blocked up storm drains have some huge puddles from the heavy rain the last few hours which will start to freeze soon. I'm glad I have a video call that I have to be on between 2 and 3 so I'll just stay home and not go out and deal with the mess.

The rain is completely over now and it is all snow. How long now until it ices up...

Not ripping but it is snowing. 36° so it won't stick.

Closing in on 2" now. 41° with a stiff NNW wind.

Closing on 1.5" now with the wind picking up big time over the last hour or so. All of the storm drains are completely clogged and the water is cascading down the center of the streets in sheets. Driving is interesting at best. Hopefully the next round of precip is light or the back side freeze could be a mess.

Driving around today I was really surprised at how high the water level is in some of the reservoirs. Usually by now they've drained them down 10 feet or more. Up to 1.4" on the day so far.This is the good solid soaking we've needed for a while. I hate it but I'll take it.
