8 million people live on Long Island…only 9 million live in the entire state of NJ. It’s a high impact event for millions of people.

3 mil if you count LI as Nassau and Suffolk counties only. Many don’t think Queens & Kings counties when talking about LI.

33.6° here.  It's been all snow since the first flakes a couple of hours ago, but the snow has been very light and is melting.  Would like to see some better rates before we mix, but who knows.

Picked up here in Syosset. I’m at 33.4. Maybe 1/4 to 1/2” on my snowboard.

Bottomed out at 22.6 here.  Most places a little farther south from the Sound were 3 or 4 degrees colder.  Heat content of the Sound must be above normal...we're usually almost caught up to more inland parts of central LI by now in terms of nighttime lows.

23.2 in Muttontown & 23.7 in Syosset for my lows this morning.

  5. Pine tree laying against power lines in Muttontown, just E of Heritage Nursery.  New traffic light was twisted on pole at Sugar Tom Lane & 25a.  Some vacant store signs knocked down as well along 25A heading into Great Neck from Syosset.  That's all I saw on my drive into the office.

Port Wash branch of LIRR partially suspended due to fallen trees. I’d call that fairly significant, especially given the time of year.

My old LIRR line always has trees down on it, never fails. Heavy winds shut off as that squall passed here around 8:20am. Some limbs down but no issue with school bus pickup for my kids.  1.53” in Syosset with highest gust of 41mph & 1.32” in Muttontown with 45mph highest gust.

Need these maps to show 100mph to get strong winds in reality

Agreed, I’d never take a wind map at face value. I’d knock 20-30 mph off the maps. Still getting wind gusts around 50-60mph. With saturated ground should be enough to drop trees and large limbs over Long Island I am sure.
