Summer 2022 weather =>
At least I did chase one storm (really the only one all summer). I was right there in the path of the Fenton Lake tornado. Had a tree go down right in front of me. To bad it was night and I couldn't get a good look at the tornado but I was right there.
Thankfully it looks like we are finally going to get out of the these miserable temps in the 40s & 50s. I will agree it has been a long time since Southern Lower MI (at least north of Detroit) has had a spring worth remembering (t-storm wise at least). I used to look really forward to April and May for a few big time storms (especially the beginning of some fun the nocturnal events) . Yes many events did stay south and west which is expected especially in April (not like I expect to be the bullseye) but lately there does seem to be a void here in the springs less a few renegade storms like we have had this year. Hopefully later May into June can get us going this year (mid-June into October last year IMBY was the best T-storms I have seen in years)!!
Especially April. I just spent last week south of Asheville NC. Everyday had sun, even the day it rained ended sunny. 60s & 70s. It was great hiking and biking weather. Come back here to rain and snow .
At least today will be nice, sunny and 50s!!
Mud month is where we are right now here. It has been horrible the past week. We still have many area of snow and ice (plus all the snow mounds). I live on dirt roads and this has been one extremely muddy week. Looking forward to the 60 degrees expected late Saturday and into Sunday to do it's best to melt most of it away!!
When I lived in the Keweenaw March was such a great cross country ski month. I considered March a full winter month too. It was April when I was done with winter. You would start losing all the snow and then that April some would come and put 1/2 of it back on the ground. I recall May10th, 1990 snow that cancelled Summer classes at NMU (first time ever NMU cancelled summer classes due to snow).
Wish I planned a Marquette ski trip. I am visiting Nubs Nob. Thankfully all snow here but nothing like what you got!!
Enjoy ... I too like to spend hours just being out in the snow like you are saying
Yeah it will be interesting to see the totals at Washburn area as some models have that band there for several hours!! Wish I could drive there right now
That is still a very cool event to get that much!!
It actually happened twice when I was at Tech. Both ~2 hours long and both ended at 14". 1st one was in the middle of the night so I mostly missed it (I don't really count that one much). 2nd time was in the evening around 7-9. It was crazy as I took a nice long walk during it. The roads were basically at a stand still as I was walking faster than any vehicle moving on the road.
I only got a little sleet right at the start but it was mainly snow IMBY. The other storm was much more cake on all the trees which was awesome. This one was great because we didn't have several crazy 24-30"+ model runs proceeding the storm.
