  1. Looks like Rudolph is needed in SEMI. Dense Fog Advisory until 11AM. Couple shots of alcohol and one can be persuaded it's heavy snow. Merry Christmas All!!
  2. I allow the quick weather forecast to show up on the bottom of my computer screen and here it is for today: Forecast high is 50F. Record high is low 60s. They must be using the Saukville forecasting method!!
  3. Ah okay!! Thought I recognized it. Love driving by that lake.
  4. Ended up with 0.56" of rain from last nights event making it 2.02" precip. for the month so far (might be a bit more as snow doesn't do well with the gauge on my system as it can blow off too easily).
  5. In the 90s (my single life days) we would play Bocce Ball on Christmas day when temps were in the 50s . Maybe I should start doing that again this year with the family.
  6. I agree it was nice. Sad to see it go but know it will be back
  7. I agree with michsnowfreak post. Your post is just looking one index. There are many influences on the weather pattern to make this a warm Dec like the ragging jet configuration in the Pacific without early blocking expected. 1991 was the Mt Pinatubo eruption year so I know that was not used. My point being is not all of those were included in the analog expectations for this Dec. 2015 and 1982 were included in several forecasts for Dec.
  8. El Nino so mild Dec expected. I just got 4.5" of snow with 3" still on the ground. Expected to melt over the next couple days. Sitting a bit above 10" so far this winter which is a little below average. Mild Christmas expected which is not a surprise with El Nino. So winter is doing what I expected plus proceeding as forecasted by many long range forecasters several months ago.
  9. I think a lot has to do with it being pretty sunny and mild recently. Cold feeling can be relative. Temps in the 30s right now walking the dog and I am pretty darn bundled up. Yet after several days in the teens and then walk the dog in the 30s and I lightly bundled up.
  10. I didn't realize that second wave there was all sleet. Cool to know!! I wouldn't be surprise this year to see a bigger April event than the last few years.
  11. I know what you mean. I figure I eventually will have to pay one of the neighbor kids to do my driveway but I have several years to go before that happens ( ). Last year I had the biggest mostly sleet (mixed with a little ice) event I have personally seen (while just to my south was getting a major ice storm). Boy that was a bugger to clean off the driveway.
  12. It has been snowing most of the day here. Has about a hour or so midafternoon break that even gave us some sunshine. My last measurement is 3.5"-4" on the ground even with the warmer ground and bit of sunshine.
  13. 2015-16. I believe it was horrible for many on this board but not MBY. It was a great snowfall winter (Nov - April). December was the only bad month for winter weather. No surprise there
  14. I'll slightly modify buckeye's comment: I'll always love extreme weather, especially winter storms & thunderstorms, but as I get older I have more and more disdain for boring snowless cold. If the weather is going to be active or extreme lets go; game on!!! Otherwise just give me some mild/warm sunny weather.
  15. I just call them a bit different for my area. May/June=Spring; July/August=Summer; Sept/Oct=Fall; Nov/Dec=Boring; Jan/Feb=Winter; March/April=Miserable. Though I will say they do tend to shift a bit as a season will start early or end late.
  16. Snowing out this morning a lot more than expected. 1.5" on the ground and working on 2". Quarter to occasional silver dollar sized flakes falling!! Oddly radar is not all that exciting
  17. When I lived at Houghton (MTU) the best LES events seem to come with 10-20 MPH winds. To strong of winds and they rarely produced as forecasted; however; that is when we would occasionally get the big squalls with a few inches in a matter of minutes.
  18. I am a few years over 50 myself and I will agree it has been nice to get out and walk the dog. Plus now I have everything all set outside so I should be able to wait until May to do any more yard work. I have been trying to get about 5 miles a day dog walk. Got 5 miles in this morning before the rains picked up!! Would have loved it if winter would set in just before 25th and onward so we could have a white Christmas but that not looking likely this year.
  19. I was in Macomb Cnty. in '75 and I was like 4 so to be honest I only remember in pictures Macomb => Houghton (hide site I wish I would have stayed here) => Macomb => Lapeer (great spot with land wondering if I should have stayed) => Macomb => Oakland => finally Livingston the past 11 years (great location on a lake ). Yeah I moved around a lot but I can say Macomb will NEVER be in my future Next move will be out of SE MI ... someday
  20. Excluding my MTU years (i.e. just living in SE MI). This was definitely a top 5 snow event/periods. This 2 week period in SE MI was truly remarkable!!
  21. I remember a couple mild overall Nov/Dec with not much snow until Christmas break back when I was at MTU. Looking at the chart you posted they must have gotten the snow just before Christmas as it showed white on the pines. Coming back after New Years was exciting as there was finally snow on the ground for cross country skiing. Back then Mt Ripley didn't have snow makers so it wasn't able to open until January!
  22. Isn't is crazy how we can remember storms like this. 1978 Blizzard is the same for me. I was 7 years old and still remember it. Back then I had to wait for TV news for any updates. Makes me wonder how today's models would of handled it. Wonder if todays models would of had 50+" runs with that storm
  23. I have seen this happen many times. The biggest reversal in DTW history occurred on Christmas day itself. Record High @ DTW is 64 on 1982. Record Low @ DTW is -10 on 1983. I remember it well as I happened to be visiting family in MN in 1982 and got blasted by a major winter storm that week!! We were digging tunnels through the snow drifts Home the very next Christmas with the booger freezing cold with record cold 4 days in a row!!
  24. Very classic strong El Niño like pattern continues the next couple weeks. Pretty much things are going as most expected. Next thing to watch is SSW events. This where I believe things become interesting.
