  1. Here’s a fun one: which number will be higher at MDT when winter is all said and done, lowest temperature or total snowfall?
  2. It’s actually better than the 6z. We don’t get into the mid 60s in January on this one.
  3. The STUPID GREEN that @TugHillMattreferenced plays a prominent role in the 2m panels of the GFS (along with a bit of STUPID YELLOW at times and of course the occasional STUPID ORANGE).
  4. Yeah, a few back end flurries usher in a trough that lasts… 12 hours.
  5. Still, the ridge is right there, poised to bring more garbage warmth after that.
  6. New Year’s Day looks dry and seasonable. A lot of room for improvement but could be worse.
  7. I wish I could go back in time and tell the 12/31/2020 version of myself that I’d be on a weather forum posting about the Palouse and the Steelers punter on the day of the winter solstice. Would have definitely tempered my hopes for what kind of year it was going to be.
  8. Looks like next week is going to feel like the Palouse in summer.
  9. I agree with the sentiment, especially given what it costs to attend a sporting event these days. I grapple with that when it comes to what these players actually owe me (which is absolutely nothing if I’m watching at home, but it could be argued that it’s not nothing if I paid for a ticket).
  10. Yeah, the Steelers made sure his dad got to see him play, possibly for the last time, and he got to see his son get booed. I’ve been guilty of it at sporting events in the past (mostly directed toward refs), but I’ll think twice before ever doing it again. Time will tell if Pressley Harvin is an NFL caliber punter, but you just never know what someone is going through as a human being.
  11. After hearing about Harvin’s dad being terminally ill and near death, I’m inclined to give the kid the benefit of the doubt. Not that the fans knew, but that booing looks really ugly now.
  12. Was actually looking at some stats yesterday on this (for PIT), and just did the same for MDT. Looks like MDT dropped to 22 today, the lowest of the season to date and quite possibly the lowest it’ll see before the new year. In MDT/Harrisburg’s history, this has happened 6 other times: 2015 (low of 25 through 12/31), 1923 (24), 1984 and 1918 (23), and 2012 and 1931 (22).
  13. I’m starting to think my 21.9 (you know what I mean) is going to bust way high.
  14. If you look at 6z you’ll want to go back to bed.
  15. Maybe it’s like the Space Race in the ‘60s. They had to beat the Euro to be the first global to produce 4 runs a day. And, like landing on the moon, it really doesn’t change much in practical terms.
  16. Yeah, it’s just the 6z. They run that and the 18z just for fun.
  17. Do we have a new contender for worst model run of the winter to date?
  18. Realistically that’s probably accurate, regardless of what happened in March of 1993 or 2018. Even so, if I’m going to waste a month or DJF, I’d almost certainly choose December, other than the fact that there’s no guarantee only one month gets wasted.
  19. Yeah, that’s 12/30, so the second to last play of the first quarter and we’re only down two scores. Plenty of time.
  20. When it becomes the shorter range, your desired weather will win out. We know this.
  21. Longer range GFS looks a lot better so far, for whatever that’s worth.
  22. The normal high at MDT today is 42, so mid 40s would be seasonable.
  23. I could live with a pause of fans, but my morale is already in the shitter at the moment and I’m sure there are many others who would say the same, and having distractions helps immensely.
  24. In my opinion, one of the worst parts of the early days of the pandemic was not even having sports to take one’s mind off anything happening in the world. May we never forget how much that sucked. I certainly understand why they were shut down at that time, and they rightfully should have been, but there has to be some sort of balance now.
