  1. The one where the “STUPID ORANGE” advances into the MDT area.
  2. I could see it. Looks like MDT easily blew past its forecast high of 42 today.
  3. I see that. But make no mistake about it, next week is shaping up to be a torchfest so the long range is the only game in town.
  4. I’d still classify the long range part of this GFS as “good”.
  5. And as always, the ridge wins its battle against the trough.
  6. Yeah looks actually decent. A nice trackable D13 threat.
  7. Weak, disorganized and looks like it’ll be pushed south.
  8. The STUPID GREEN exits the area on the 12z GFS right around the time the ball drops.
  9. 12z GFS is running, for anyone who wants to torture themselves.
  10. It’s only a matter of time until we choose a new place to post about for months. Maybe it’ll be one of those.
  11. No all expenses paid trips to your choice of: Pillow, Paw Paw, the Palouse or the Skook?
  12. Wait, so the Skook isn’t just the place, it’s also the residents of said place?
  13. I think it’s more likely that the temperature stays above freezing for the entire period between Christmas and New Year’s (as both the 0z Euro and GFS except for one panel depict) than that there’s any real winter weather chance to track. But I do like where the GFS is going a day or two after the new year. Hopefully that doesn’t get wiped away at 12z.
  14. Appears it was Vancouver and not Torino but the rest of your post is as solid as that pillar.
  15. Damn right it did, because it so accurately put into words my mental response when I see it on a map during the winter. And it’s versatile, too! Whether it’s temperature, p-type, dewpoint (though blue and the dreaded purple are stupider in that case), QPF, green is almost universally the stupid color on a weather model. I’ll be using your terminology all winter and probably every winter when I see it on a map now.
  16. 300+ is at least cold-ish on the 18z. Most afternoon temps are on the edge of, or just barely into, the infamous “STUPID GREEN.” Oh wait, we can’t count on 300+, there’s still no snow, and the 6z and 18z GFS runs are only run for shits and giggles. Carry on, fellas.
  17. GFS ensemble has caved to have the positive height anomalies through the end of its run.
  18. Yes, and also this: The Black Hills of South Dakota are home to the world's fastest recorded rise in temperature. On 22 January 1943, at about 7:30 am mst, the temperature in Spearfish, South Dakota, was −4 °F (−20 °C). The interior Chinook kicked in, and two minutes later, the temperature was 45 °F (7 °C). The 49 °F (27 °C) rise set a world record, yet to be exceeded. By 9:00 am, the temperature had risen to 54 °F (12 °C). Suddenly, the Chinook died down and the temperature tumbled back to −4 °F (−20 °C). The 58 °F (32 °C) drop took only 27 minutes.
  19. Yep, huge ridge out here as the trough digs into the west.
  20. That’s some impressive cold on the EC in the north central. HIGHS near -30 next Wednesday in northern North Dakota.
  21. Fact is every team in the division is facing a daunting last 3 games, so if I squint really hard I can see this scenario. And winning the division gives us a home playoff game against another fringe playoff team, because let’s face it, everyone in the AFC except the Chiefs is a fringe playoff team.
  22. You can certainly convince me that they can beat teams they’ve already beaten, again. But that tie against Detroit really hurts, as it renders all of the tie breaking scenarios moot, and winning 2 of 3 would have to come with a fair amount of help.
  23. Forgot all about that nonsense, and completely agree. That said, fairly early in the stink bug invasion, one got into the TV behind the screen and you could see it while watching hockey (or anything else). I’m pretty sure it was alive in there, so it even moved! Don’t know how many times I confused that bastard(i) with the puck.
