  1. Wow wow wow. I understand now why people say you just have to experience it. And the difference between 99% and 100% is just literally night and day. Absolutely amazing experience. Ended up just south of New Castle, IN right over totality. It’s something I’ll never forget. This is a picture a friend took through a telescope. Anyone who saw it will tell you that you could see that solar flare on the bottom. So worth the traffic mess after. I’d experience it again in a heartbeat.
  2. Targeting New Castle, IN. Will make adjustments by tomorrow morning but that’s my spot as of now.
  3. Decided to take a random timelapse this evening and happened to catch the trailing end of cloud cover moving out over the lake. I thought it was kinda cool but then again I’m a dork.
  4. Lake slowly starting to freeze. Just in time for things to warm up.
  5. Been getting rather frequent frost/ice quakes here in Kenosha next to the lake where we got quite a bit of rain with the last system and only a few inches on the ground. Something I’ve never experienced before. Have had them the past two nights. So that’s kinda cool. Sometimes as many as a half dozen or more per hour in the early morning hours. Silver lining to this nastiness.
  6. Switched to rain here in Kenosha. Hopefully it’ll change back soon. Wind is ripping off the lake tho
  7. Switched to rain here in Kenosha. Hopefully it’ll change back soon
  8. Light accumulating snow in Kenosha. Good start.
  9. I’ve lived on the lake for the past 5 years or so. This is the first time we’re going into mid January and I’ve seen no ice at all. Not even on the rocks of the shoreline. Would be interested if anyone has a link to data reflecting ice cover on Lake Michigan by year as a comparison. I’m sure it’s not super rare I’m only speaking from my 5 years living here which is why I’d be interested in seeing some longer term data.
  10. The last system gave me PTSD here in SE Wisconsin near the lake. At least this shouldn’t be a total rainer but it’s still really going to cut into the totals on the lakeshore again and keeping me anxious. If it pleases the crown, may I please have a few inches before the deep freeze?
  11. The warm lake really spoiling this one for me. Guess I’ll need to drive a few miles inland to build my snow fort. For the winners of this one, enjoy!
  12. Being so close to the warm lake isn’t going to do me any favors on this one even in SE WI. Starting to prepare for a sloppy mix.
  13. I’m just so damn happy we have multiple storms to track. This weather has been more boring than when I lived in San Diego. I’m loving this and will accept the inevitable disappointment just give me things to track. God speed all.
  14. I should just move back to San Diego. Just as boring but beautiful beaches and plenty of nice palm trees haha
  15. Geminides meteor shower peaks the next couple nights. Haven’t seen shit yet but what else we have to talk about lol
  16. Random picture but from yesterday morning at the lake. Always fun to get a visual of the atmosphere.
  17. Some of the showers here in Kenosha are pretty intense. Doesn’t last long before it goes back to a drizzle but we’re definitely picking up a lot of rain tonight in addition to what we’ve already gotten. The narrow band is just right over us.
  18. The lake is very angry today and will be the next couple of days. Starting to get those winter vibes. It’s crazy how windy it is standing right next to the lake, then 50ft away it’s relatively calm. ...GALE WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING... .TONIGHT...East gales to 40 kt. Showers and slight chance of thunderstorms. Waves 8 to 12 ft occasionally to 16 ft. .SATURDAY...Northeast gales to 35 kt. Showers. Waves 10 to 14 ft occasionally to 18 ft. .SATURDAY NIGHT...Northeast gales to 35 kt becoming north 15 to 25 kt. Chance of showers. Waves 8 to 12 ft occasionally to 16 ft subsiding to 7 to 10 ft occasionally to 13 ft. .SUNDAY...North winds to 30 kt. Chance of showers. Waves 7 to 10 ft occasionally to 13 ft building to 8 to 12 ft occasionally to 16 ft.
  19. Was hoping to catch a waterspout on the lake today conditions were pretty favorable. This little guy was trying. Saw a funnel very briefly but it moved out a little too far for my outdated iPhone camera to really pick up. Hopefully a couple more chances before winter hits.
