My 8th full year in the west and the cascades to my west have always had snow.
(glaciers are common here in the 3 sisters bowls 25 miles to my west)
So many of the higher western mountains have snow year round. Washington State stays pretty solid snow covered in many areas. The snow cover diminishes north to south with CA mountains snow melting out "pretty" fast.
Deep snow packs are common in June. Several mountain roads don't get plowed open until late May and usually are closed again in early November.
I skied here July 3rd in 2017 at Mt Bachelor with 3-5 feet still above 8,500 feet
Only in August & September are my views mostly rocky looking.
If you love snow, moderately cold winters its hard to match the higher mountains in the west. Lots of "snowbirds" here that go to AZ or Palm Spring areas during the long winters. The locals joke that we have 9 months of winter and 3 months of summer. Reality it depends on location. You can easily ski in the morning, golf, bike or even lounge by the pool on a sunny May day with temps in the 70's. And that can happen 15 miles apart!
the mountains that normally dont have snow all year round is what im saying

Can’t say I blame them. Someone mentioned this over the weekend, I think, that models have been “losing” nice east coast storms in the mid range, they end up cutters cause the ridge just won’t let up. It’s been tough for long range forecasts all winter.
the cutters are really bad this year yes. but for the last few seasons for winter forecasts models are way off as well as temps esp when they say 2 weeks form now very cold and a few days before they push temps back up delay the cold for a week and it happens all over again.

Ok. It seems like you’re frustrated, but maybe I am interpreting wrong. Forecasting is hard.
no just the fact they say one thing on my local but models that are followed by the country they dont look too at all and they model hug in house models

To be fair, climate prediction center was only predicting a 30-50% chance of below normal temps for next week
thats what im saying no one knows what the fuck is going on. they have mid 40s or higher for the next 10 days and no sign of any snow maybe showers of rain on the day we are looking at the storm
-
my local news weather guys are not buying the cold air below normal at all they have me at average or slightly above now lol.

this is what I dont get the forecast for this timeframe says much below normal temp was the latest outlook for temps my average is 45 this shows me in low 40s thats not much below normal at all. unless something change much below normal. normally means 10 degrees or so?

This time of year with blocking , if a low tracks south of us it will be cold enough to snow. Low 40s and sun turns into low 30s if there's a system taking a good track for us.
I know just the way shits going

sadly the damn story of this year north west ends up to a apps cutter then to a lake cutter im tired of this and the south east ridge. one of my local news weather forecasts is saying for the so called cold period isnt cold at all the lowest temps they have for extended forecast is 43. meaning slightly below average but most of the highs are mid 40s to upper 40s and for the told frame of this storm they have mid 50s for southern PA. so yeah sadly if this goes north west its gonna start to torch

sigh this is just sad lol big ass flip flop from cold east warmer west to now im many models warm east powerful south east ridge and us torching to the west being cold again with storms
-
all this talk about cold and snow watch the storm be a lake cutter and torch us with 80s
-

Better outcome as it pertains to our prospects for the PSU wave (wave #2) No mega storm in the plains to breakdown the pattern. At least we have that. Trying to keep it positive.damn so now its all rain ???

i referenced boxing day 2010 to CAPE for a reason (altho that would be bad for him too where he had the save he mentioned in that one that most of us didn't get)

46 and scattered clouds here.
Latest GFS paints 20" of QPF for Mammoth CA in March. Euro is much "drier" with only about 8" of QPF. Even is the Euro is correct, that's likely another 10' of snow in the next 30 days. By that point I'll be 7 weeks from my trip. In town they've now received 524" of snow with a current snow cover of a staggering 203".
heard some one state on the weather part of the next they could have snow on most of the higher mountains till next winter

if only the euro ran out for a bit longer
and if it went out any longer it would be way worse long range mode heh

Agreed, i think 14-16th period looks fantastic, my
Negativity today was more towards this 10-11th range where we saw the euro yesterday blow up an event because it ejected the energy out west faster.
Tonight GFS still not pushing energy along. Canadian does but it’s kind of sloppy. GFS still looks solid as we move beyond the 11th…
.set up looks good now 2 plus weeks out then something shits the bed and it will end up near normal or above normal. it always says cold 2 weeks out then it gets pushed back or it moderates as we get closer to the event.
