  1. Let's see if the upcoming system throws a few surprises at us. Some spread in ensembles from operational model run which could get interesting. The futility is sad, but the general trend with the changing climate probably makes this the new norm.
  2. Holy mackerel Euro... wow. Well it is pretty much holding serve, although appears a hair further to the SE on track but negligible as best I can tell right now. Impressive dynamics it brings together and just hammers Northern Illinois in particular. Don't know if the storm will actually be that juicy but wow. That is probably the most impressive storms potentially since GHD 2011.
  3. Ensemble #8 caught my eye from this suite of solutions...
  4. Haven't viewed everything yet in the model runs but my gut feeling is this is going to dampen out a bit with time as it heads Northeast and occludes off and the 500mb wave gets perhaps a bit less impressive also. With that said I think that the further South outliers may be on to something but perhaps not quite as far to the South as they are depicting. There will still be some nice WAA and frontogenesic forcing to help with the precip rates, also will have a window of some good UVV as well. Just not confident that higher amounts will completely pan out unless they are in isolated spots. We'll see what Euro says here in a bit.... Wouldn't be shocked to see some tweaking of watches with the morning AFD's. This is a nasty call to make for the folks on the hot seat in the morning.
  5. JoMo, I am so very happy to hear that you are okay. We were all so very worried about you. I know that we don't know each other personally, but after sharing so many conversations with you about winter storms and various other things in our time on these forums I felt somewhat acclimated to you. I was so very worried and scared, but my worries and scares are now alieviated to some degree. Its never easy when dealing with something like this especially when you have to deal with the loss of friends/loved ones. I have given the forum a break, just concentrating on my personal job in the field of meteorology and trying to give myself a bit of a severe weather reprieve outside of what we've been dealing with locally up here. I just want you to know there are so many of us on here that care about you and care about the people down there. I am encouraging everyone I know to donate to the local approved charities and to volunteer if they can. I know one of our local met's on tv up here- he's a new guy- Kevin Phelps I believe is his name is from down there and did a lot of reporting for KWQC in Davenport, Ia. So we are all thinking about Joplin, and wish you all godspeed and warm thoughts and wishes. The folks of Missouri have always been kind to me, its a beautiful state, and they have helped us tremendously during a lot of our flooding disasters and we remember these things. I thank the higher power that exists that you are okay. If you ever need to falk, vent, cry, please do not hesitate to contact me or a professional. What you have been through is very traumatic and there is a lot to deal with after going through something like this, just don't be afraid to show your emotions if you need to. Its so easy to internalize a lot of this and I don't advise to do that as it will just tear you up. Take care my friend and please continue to keep us all updated on things and what is needed, how things are progressing, etc.
  6. I posted this in the other thread but I guess I can post it here too. When I was a kid growing up I lived in a trailer park for a while (I think it was from the time I was six to eight or there abouts, hard to remember exactly), my parents were very average middle class. Dad was a factory worker and my mom stayed at home and raised me. I can remember when we had really bad storms late in the evening and overnight the police department would always send a car out to our mobile home park with an intercom device on it saying tornado warning get to shelter. Perhaps when a situation arises where the power is out over a wide urban area and there is a long enough lead time this event will bring back something like that protocol again? I wonder if we will see something like that put into place. I know in the other thread OceanStWx was saying the higher ups, higher than the director of the NWS even, was asking why so many people died. If it was higher than the director of the NWS that tells me its either the Commerce Secy (since the NWS is in the Commerce Dept) or its the President himself. Therefore we are going to see some changes made but I don't know what could have been done in storms of this magnitude and storms that were so prevalent in such heavily populated areas. I do think its a decent idea to consider though sending out authorities with intercoms on the cars alerting people a tornado is coming and to take shelter, especially with a long lead time and when the power is out- but perhaps I am not thinking everything through. I have been very quiet here on everything over these last few days I have been in tremendous shock over this whole event. I cannot believe what I have just witnessed. I never believed that I would see such loss of life from tornadoes in this day and age, just goes to show you that no matter what the technology if you put a nasty tornado in a major urban area the loss of life can be tremendous no matter what. I think some of the home constructors may have to start considering putting safe rooms in homes as part of the construction, don't know that it should be required but should probably be strongly considered.
