Now they canceled the flood watch early, a massive almost nonstop lightning display is developing just to my SW ... hopefully these storms can hold together a few more miles to the NE - probably not but it would be nice...
-
Nice refreshing late June day after the heat this week... NWS is a jinx for us this month, today was the 3rd flood watch to go with yesterday's warning --- for a total of 0.13 on those 4 days...
-
Was under a flood warning earlier today with a still dry gauge... only 0.19 in the last 13 days with this week's high temperatures - things are starting to get a bit dry again down this way....
-
Interesting, Under a flash flood warning, but so far only a few sprinkles at my place.... Afton definitely getting slammed..
-
Only 0.09 on the day.. Monthly total 2.78.... Did get a couple nice pics driving home west of Charlottesville on 64 in weakening showers into the setting sun.... Raindrops looking like Christmas lights in the sun...
-
Home from work finally... Relaxing on the front porch ... Definitely can see lightening far to the north, must be the new cells popping SW of Winchester in Eastern WV... 3rd flood watch of the past 4 days here with a grand total of 0.12 since Friday night... But watching more important lightning in my yard -- fireflies !!!! Not many , nothing like years gone by like the 80s 90s - but more than recently ...

1.22 here.... Most of my weather data from 07 [ when I moved to northern Waynesboro from western Albemarle ] to Sept 2020 is gone - so I dont know how many , but this has got to be one of the very few times since moving here that 2 thunderstorms within a week dropped over a inch. We rarely get a half inch in my backyard from any single tstorm.. Tropical rain we do well - thunderstorm rain we do not.. Much different this year than the past 3 years by the middle of June...
-
Legitimately got surprised overnight, probably the best thunderstorm in a year or 2 here ... 1.25
-
Steady light rain has developed in the 25 min... Nothing major in the rain so far..... But significant occasional redish lightning with long lasting rolling thunder has developed...
-
Alot of rain seems to have fallen south of 64 the last 24 hours , southern Augusta / Stuarts Draft into Rockbridge.. Which seems to be the convective pattern down here the last 3 years - hence the crushing spring - mid summer Valley droughts the last couple years have been Waynesboro northward.... .09 last 24 hours here... Another cluster just popped in the same area... Thankfully the large synoptic events this spring have been a nice change...
-
At least 1.5 to maybe 2 in northern Albemarle near the airport...That was a very tropical downpour, some angry small creeks..
-
Beautiful mostly clear blue skies with lower humidity and of course gusty winds down here in Charlottesville... Haven't seen anything down here... When Charlottesville dosent get the rains that's when you know it was a total bust down in these parts... Did receive about .15 earlier at home in Waynesboro for a monthly total of almost exactly 6.50...
-
Nice , always enjoy these kind of nights , on the porch listening to the rain on the trees and runoff in the gutters ... Soaking light to moderate rain... About 0.6 on the day.. Much better start to this year so far compared to the previous two years.... Haven't looked at the numbers but seems like more moisture here so far this year than we received all the way up to August last year when Debby/tropics ramped up...
-
A bit breezy , damp and actually a little bit chilly outside right now...
-
0.19 More than I anticipated looking at radar earlier... At least it keeps the ground moist and helps keep things nice and green/growing , with no legit heat in sight....
-
3.02 total here... Everything just looks and feels fresher outside - plants gardens grass... 6 to 7 inch totals apparently just to my east by 4 or 5 miles along the spine of the Blue Ridge inside the Park..
-
Very sorry to hear that... And I feel for the parents if the worst is realized -- That is a terrible feeling that never fades no matter how much time passes...
-
You might make a run at 5+ The earlier runs that suggested a Charlottesville to Winchester mega event 2nite nailed it... Still a firehouse on radar along that corridor...
-
Dollins Creek , off of Burches creek rd... Apparently a 12 year old unfortunately is missing in floodwaters along the eastern foot of Afton... This rain has been and is incredibly intense down here in Albemarle so far this evening... Alot of lightning but just gentle rolling thunder...

I'm not at home right now to check my gauge in Waynesboro, it was just under 2 inches at 1 this afternoon.. This current SE to NW moisture flow upsloping along the central Blue Ridge looks like some of those events last September...
-
1.52 here so far...
-
Just a question that I have - any answers ? Back in the mid 90s as teen in NW Albemarle , just east of the mountains - I grew up on simple AM/FM radio ... I knew where each FM country station was located on the dial ... This occurred during a strong afternoon thunderstorm with very vivid - almost nonstop lightning , as the storm moved off SE toward Charlottesville I came across a unfamiliar station while scanning through the frequencies, after a few songs the dj came on and said the NWS has issued a tornado watch for all of SE Kansas - 30 % chance of storms capable of producing tornadoes this afternoon... As the lightning faded into the distance that stations FM signal faded... Have always been amazed at that occurrence - knowing that FM signals do not carry that far , usually a 100 miles max... unlike AM signals which can travel a thousand miles especially at night...
-
Despite being in heavy rain multiple times in Charlottesville- heavy rain up Afton down into Eastern Waynesboro, NW edge of town/my backyard 0.02... The usual thunderstorm pattern the last few years....
-
Really does seem that way - more so than normal the last 3 years with thunderstorm seasons... Almost always north of Winchester and usually south of 64 in the Valley with organized activity ... Central and northern Valley gets slammed with incredible droughts but Lexington southward no problem... So far it's alittle bit wetter than last years Feb through July down here before the tropical deluge started in Aug - When it was barely a 1.5 inch a month avg... It's annoying too - usually get slammed during work in Charlottesville only to go home and see less than a tenth in the gauge..
