  1. I know this isnt covering the Triad, but dang it sure feels like a thunderstorm kinda day. I just need some rain.....cant believe I just said that.
  2. Dang Jeremy, you're famous!!! You made national news and the DrudgeReport front page with these pics! Hope there are some royalties with that. You just received hundreds of millions of impressions!
  3. Storm watches have been posted by RAH and Blacksburg. Now up to almost 80 here in the triad.
  4. It stayed cloud covered so long this morning in the Triad that I thought for sure we were in the clear. Now sitting in a hot sun, 76° and watching some towers starting to rise back towards winston. Could get interesting!
  5. Moving on......pre-emergent goes down after work tonight. Spraying winter weeds tomorrow morning. Trailer load of mulch this weekend. This winter is DONE! How can the ski resorts in NC even manage to stay in business??
  6. This rain is really doing a number on all of us. Now a major landslide is reported across I40 at the TN state line closing ALL lanes. Detours are 200 MILES around. Hope they get that cleared soon but the weather wont help. Probably some very unstable ground out there. Edit - they wont be doing an assessment until sunrise. They tried to clear some of the slide and had rocks falling down on them. So at least a day or two at minimum. Good luck mountain peeps.
  7. Hey guys, got a new phone so I am searching for any new recommendations on weather apps. Who likes what and is it free or paid? TIA.
  8. Ok, I'm just going to put one more hundy in the machine and then I'll quit. Those wheels are bound to line up on jackpot soon baby! I've been playing for 3 hours and lost my ass so I'm way overdue! House odds, we lose.
  9. If I get 8 weeks of sunny and 50s/60s here in the Triad on top of my 14" of snow in Dec, I would give this winter and A++! I was so incredibly annoyed that we lost our fall weather. So to have a shot at redemption here is A OK with me!
  10. Is 6" of snow every third Thursday too much to ask for in a winter? But this is a bit ridiculous. I'm not a fan of endless nuisance events or multiple big dogs because it just gets old. If I wanted that much snow I would move north. So yes, I love my 50's and 60's this next week and I'll get a ton done in the yard this weekend. But the fact that we are going 10 hours at a time between posts in here is just nuts. I honestly can't remember a winter this empty on the models, and certainly such a contrast to the wet year we just had. That rubber band that JB always talks about is getting really wound up.........
  11. Before I was born....didnt happen. Probably before everyone on this board outside of Old Man Burns. He and Old Man Winter may have connected in 1960.
  12. Meanwhile, people in the upper midwest are praying for our 33 and rain today. Ya know, if mother nature could just average out our record wet years with a few polar vortexes the entire country would see multiple 6"+ snowfalls each year. But of course people in San Diego would complain about that. Winter sucks. (At least lately)
  13. I'm sitting here in a warm sun in Stuart Va....in short sleeves.....in late January. I could triple dog dare old man winter right now and he would just walk away in shame. Stick a fork in it. Other than a nuisance event this one is D..O...N....E!! Just bring me a dry March so I can fix all the mud damage, regrade roads and get my seed down. I'll be cleaning up dead trees and leaners for months thanks to the Big Wet known at 2018.
  14. If we don't get a whiff of snow before month end, or have a very solid event to track the first week of Feb this board is going to come unglued. Nerves are frayed! We should install a countdown clock on the main thread page so everyone has to watch the seconds of winter tick away with no snow. We should also post discount codes for online therapy sessions. I think some folks in SC are going to need some professional help soon. Lol! I just need some dry. I mean a long ass period of dry. I have so many outdoor construction projects to finish that I couldn't do last year, I could be happy with a month of dry. Sure, I'd love one last snow before March, but outside of that bring me 50's and sunny please!
  15. Man thats what I tried to say after the last storm and got raked for it. I sooo agree. But you should prepare for the flaming arrows if history is consistent.
  16. I'll deal with the mud. Either way, the dogs will tear up sod or seed this time of year. I was just hoping to fence them off for a couple weeks and fill in the bad spots. Everyone here knows darn good and well we will be begging for rain next June/July to keep all that new fescue alive. Extremes, just the way we roll here in the sunny south.
  17. Ok green thumbs, I desparately need to sow some grass asap. I know I could fast grow some rye, but I really would love to sow some fescue as wet as it is. Assuming we have 50s and 30s for the next couple of weeks with some rain mixed in, would it grow? Never tried it before this time of year and dont want to waste the 30 bucks on a small bag.
  18. I'm content. If anything, I'll take the warm temps for now if it results in a drier pattern. It is simply too damn wet. We have sugar ants in the house at the end of December! And like Poimen, I am seriously considering tossing out some fescue. Looks like a bookend winter. 14" in December, who knows what Fab Feb and Miracle March might bring. Folks need to calm down a bit. We still have a solid 75 days of potential to go even after the next couple of weeks.
  19. Lol. Thanks for your support...,uh, will kinda....,ok, maybe not. I could argue that if this storm was all we get this winter that by February all of you will be crying about it. So whats wrong with wanting several 4" events? Save the big stuff for the mountains and lets make everyone else in the forum happy. All you have to do is look at the 4' high piles of snow in my yard to realize I would have happily shared half of that with my fellow Wolfpackers in Raleigh. (ABC and Dukies go home) I understand the excitement of the big dog. But that big dog leaves a huge mess around the house after the storm too.
  20. If the FV3 can nail two storms, one from 10 days out and the other from 15 days out, then scrap the rest of the models. We have the one we need for winter forecasts. Slightly off topic, how did the FV3 do earlier this year with severe storm setups, hurricanes, etc?
  21. I get it. And I had my day when I wanted it. But when I had to plow up 4' high walls of it 100 yards long yesterday it quickly becomes more trouble than its worth. I LOVE snow. But I think 4" events cover everything from a sledder to the enthusiasts.
  22. I want everyone here to get their snow so dont take this the wrong way, but I never want to see over a foot of snow again. I think 4" is about right. Coat everything, cover the grass, you can walk in it, drive in it, shovel it fairly easily, businesses stay open and it melts quick. The order of magnitude increase in complexity of everything with the limited snow removal resources here in the south is unreal. The ideal winter for me going forward is 3-4 4" inch events with one of them being Christmas morning. A foot is cool if you dont actually have to function for 3-4 days.
  23. I hear ya and share your concern. Power already flickered once tonight. The only positive to the wind was that most of the snow weight blew out of the trees earlier today. If we get a couple tenths of ZR that wind will quickly work against us. Light ZR here in Kvegas / Walkertown.
  24. As impressed as I have been thus far, this would really take the cake. For those out east that got blanked today to walk away with 2-4" tomorrow would be incredible. Any other HiRes models on board with this much additional? I think I saw the HRRR may be bullish over in the Obs thread.
  25. Yep. I'm just sayin' expectations are high and memories are still a bit raw. Seeing some early flurries in the Triad now so maybe things are about ready to fulfill the multiple Burger Booms we saw this week.
