  1. Radar says it should be snowing here in Stuart but the ground truth is a 33° cold rain. Bummer. 8:45 edit - I have a few slush flakes mixing in. Probably about as good as this one is gonna get here at the lower elevations in Patrick County Va.
  2. I will say, kinda feels and smells like snow outside for the first time. May head up to the farm in Stuart tomorrow to see a half inch of slush. But it may be all we can muster until Fab Feb.
  3. So easy to overlook when it is just one event. I said last year after it happened that it would take multiple 3-4" events for people to feel like it was a normal winter. When you get the whole boatload all at once, especially in December, all anyone remembers is the weeks of nothing from Jan-Mar.
  4. Only if you sit around all day analyzing it. If you just enjoy what you have it ain't too shabby! I cant tell you how much work I got done over the holiday period that I didn't get done during our extended October summer. If Mother Nature is giving me my fall in January I would be perfectly fine getting my winter in March.
  5. But, but, but.....it just takes one storm! Miracle March will save us! I'm gonna spend my day off trolling Weather UToobers and their clickbaiting ways to keep me out of the sanitarium.
  6. The pattern is awful. So rest assured at this point there wont be any significant cold "sneaking up on us". We'll see it build over 10-14 days if and when trends turn in our favor. Until then, enjoy the early spring, late fall, whatever! If I had 4 months out of the year be exactly like today I would be quite the happy camper.
  7. It'll moderate......to about 67° in Elkins, WV. And that will be on the heels of 3 straight days of rain. Face it folks, we are now almost halfway into January with a LR forecast and no wholesale changes towards a more favorable pattern are in sight. The winter battle will be fought over 8 weeks from mid Jan to mid March and given how far off-base most of the forecasts have been thus far, I dont think anyone knows what the heck might happen for those 8 weeks.
  8. I expect lots of venting too. We are on the doorstep of the 2018 December Destroyer so most of us by this time last year were already looking at 120% of our annual avg. This year we are waiting on pattern alignment, we are well into December before fantasy snow is showing up, which means we will be well into January before any real chances surface. I can see us ending up with the slightly BN temps this winter that are being forecasted, but I can also see us being on the southern edge of the storm track all winter too. It's the curse we endure. I would holster that for now or risk living here in the sanitarium this winter.
  9. Another plowable December to remember?? Great, that also means golfing by February.
  10. Dang man, ya left us hanging over here in Kvegas! Now its just me and TarheelWx. You go to Reidsville?
  11. I was just wondering the same thing....why no watches with this??? Especially on Halloween. Folks in my neighborhood are oblivious to the weather and are losing their minds about Kernersville moving to tomorrow night. You would think RAH or Blacksburg would err on the side of caution here? Edit - I stand corrected. I see the Tornado Watch issued for border counties north. I'll assume RAH is evaluating.
  12. We really need to get some met commentary in here. Radar is showing a much stronger front thump developing with (maybe) a look of a few discrete cells out ahead of the main line? Somebody posted the HRRR forecasted rotation tracks earlier and this event could get out of hand really quick if that proves true. Way above my pay grade here. Would love some pro comments as folks will be headed outside as soon as 3 hours from now. (Stubborn folks that balk at moving to Friday but think they will walk their 3 year olds in a driving rain) Grrrr....
  13. We just had about 10 minutes of sun here in the Triad too. Got real uncomfortable and Julyish real quick. Hoping we dont end up with more of that this afternoon. Does anyone have the forecasted Capes across NC for trick or treating hours? I need a mobile friendly link if available.
  14. This weather sucks. Cant believe I am saying that on a bright sunny October day.
  15. I was up on top of Pilot yesterday and across the VA line at my farm and both places have massive piles of brown leaves on the deck already. Even my 40' tall tulip poplar here in the triad is 90% bare. No color at all. So I agree that anywhere outside the mountains is likely to miss out on the color, but not the crunch. Wear those dustmasks sucking up those leaves!
  16. That looks like a brownout to me. A quick yellowing, then death. No way these trees stand a chance of much color this year. My yard is already full of dead leaves here in the Triad.
  17. Just saw that myself regarding the cool down potential for the first week in Oct. But cooling is only half the battle. If we lose our growing season for lawn and garden, I pray we don't have a wet winter because everything I own will be mud by February. Need....rain...now.
  18. You might be surprised. They may port call and take you to Coco Cay and just not let you tour Nassau. I bet they clean up Coco Cay real damn quick. Two weeks is plenty of time to bring in dozens of private cleaning crews.
  19. Nope, lets get it right. EVERYONE hates (non red-tag) NYC/NJ tropical posters. (love you guys in the winter though, kind of funny to watch the freakouts) Evidently people in the Bahamas have nothing on "Sandy Survivors". Give it up people. Sandy, by comparison, was a little coastal flooding combined with a few EF-1 tornadoes for localized heavy damage. Most of an island was just wiped off the map by Dorian. No equals here.
  20. When that storm came through Kernersville earlier today the wind was strong enough to blow the rain bands out ahead of the storm. It was raining sideways with the sun still out for about a minute. Havent seen that before.
  21. Line that just went through the Triad was amping up the whole time. Very heavy rain, maybe some pea size hail and some solid lighting activity. Radar is loaded. Wouldnt want to be in central and eastern NC today if all of these cells start going severe.
  22. Hope not. I am under it as we speak!
  23. I was hoping these storms would set up just east of the Triad as often happens. Not today. Some good looking cells kicking off just east of the mountains and I have a warning here in Stuart already today. Could be a hail damage kinda day!
  24. I see the head of a two tone young cow. The grayed out snout is east of SC, then the eye with the white striped forehead just to the west of the eye, and then the ear is the little loop just to the east of where the forehead stripe ends. On another note, I need brighter security lights up at the house in Stuart VA. The only lights in that half of VA is in Roanoke!
