    2019 Tropical Weather Discussion

Hasnt been created in our forum yet. May be one in the LA, TX and west forum. Probably not much for us to track here other than a general discussion. If Barry decides to shift towards the apps and spin for a while it will get much more interesting.

    2019 Tropical Weather Discussion

Gauges are maxed out on the mississippi. A foot or more of rain along with a 3' storm surge, and possible tropical storm force winds slowing down the river outflow (even for a few hours) = disaster again for the French Quarter and various low spots around the city. Hope these people truly learned their lesson from Katrina and evac early. No excuses this time around.

Mid to Long Term Discussion 2019

Seeing some hints around the interwebs of a cooler than normal, less humid spell coming in the 10 day range. I'm so dang busy I have no time to play in the weather, much less watch models, so I'll leave it to the experts here. Any truth to this coming July Ice Age?

    June 2019 OBS

74° at 6:30am can only mean one thing.....my back deck is going to be a blast furnace by 10am. Ugh! I cannot express enough how much I hate summer heat.

    General Severe Weather

When that storm came through Kernersville earlier today the wind was strong enough to blow the rain bands out ahead of the storm. It was raining sideways with the sun still out for about a minute. Havent seen that before.

    New GFS is now operational

Excellent! I'll take my 16" of snow forecasted for mid December to the bank and throw the rest of the winter out the window. It would be nice if they tweaked it enough to at least accurately predict Jan/Feb torches!

    June 2019 OBS

This little gem deserves a name. Making a huge impact. Radar just continuing to reload. Several inches still to go. Shouldnt be anyone with drought concerns once this one passes.

    June 2019 OBS

If we get 3-6" of rain today on top of what just fell across the triad, especially Winston proper over the last 3 hours or so, look out. Bigtime flash flooding.

    June 2019 OBS

Radar starting to show a nice little sit and spin action dead over the triad. I dont think we're outta the woods quite yet Burnsie. Thankfully I live on top of a hill. Might hit 6" by tomorrow morning.

FFW for the triad. 2018 all over again. The big wet continues!!

If there was such a thing as a humidity ridge the ensembles would be showing that for sure cuz I'm kinda feelin' like we're sitting right under a luke warm water faucet right now. We just can't win here with weather anymore. I don't need 3 months of humid and wet. I had that last year.

    General Severe Weather

Line that just went through the Triad was amping up the whole time. Very heavy rain, maybe some pea size hail and some solid lighting activity. Radar is loaded. Wouldnt want to be in central and eastern NC today if all of these cells start going severe.

    General Severe Weather

Hope not. I am under it as we speak!

    General Severe Weather

I was hoping these storms would set up just east of the Triad as often happens. Not today. Some good looking cells kicking off just east of the mountains and I have a warning here in Stuart already today. Could be a hail damage kinda day!

    May 2019 Observations

Have fun Shaggy. Brings back a fun historical thought for me....I ran the transportation fleet for Hootie's tour way back in 1997. My wife and I had backstage passes to meet and hang with the band after the show in Raleigh but she was pregnant with my first daughter. We met Darius and the band but couldnt stay more than 5 minutes cuz baby was pissed off after all that noise. I would have loved to hang for a while and chat. Thats when Hootie was HUGE.

Perfect. Early cold flip, then another December Destroyer snow storm, and then.....well, we know what happens next. I give this prediction a 99.8% chance of verifying. The .02 leaves room for a Yellowstone eruption.

    May 2019 Observations

We had a similar stretch in May last year and then the tables flipped to one of the wettest summers in quite a while followed by two canes. This certainly looks like a different pattern this year but maybe an early tropical system can break things up a bit. I can't do this until September. Headed for 90 again today in the Triad. 89 and steamy now.

    MAY 20, 2019 High Risk

And now the convo is just one short leap away from saying that its a bust because people didnt die and things werent destroyed. Meaning CNNs headlines werent lived up to....."catastrophic". If we had a day full of EF5 tornadoes and the only thing that was torn up was hayfields, nobody would care except for those here that understand the magnitude of the event. We are a headline driven society that thrives on negative news. Not a good combo for an aggressive storm forecast.

    MAY 20, 2019 High Risk

This event may end up with more flash flooding damage than tornado damage. Seriously heavy precip amounts in populated areas while the tornado damage is "mostly" in rural areas as of now.

    MAY 20, 2019 High Risk

These guys are nuts. Driving on dirt side roads that are already wet under heavy rain bands. If there is something real coming out of that Childress storm there's going to be a lot of folks stuck in the mud.

Chaser saying the Paducah tornado is a long rope tornado (now 2 funnels) 75% down to the ground.

Tornado Tech chase team is on that cell now over at Severestudios.com. EDIT - I mean REALLY on it. Heading north up TX70 and look to run smack into it if it drops. Great position for the first intercept of the day.
