Strolling past with a bit of a side eye because I've been made fun of a thousand times over the years....but I'll assume you're legit...

Giant silkmoths are an indicator species.  They require uninterrupted forests in the case of some species like Lunas and regalis or imperialis..  There's a certain level of "wildness" you can hope to achieve when trying to hunt for cocoons or caterpillars of each species. If you have a healthy number of wild silkmoths then that means your local wild acreage is mature.

There are few things in my life that give me such joy as thinking back to my childhood as I hunted for cocoons along the side of the expressway or local highways.  It taught me all about botany and conservation.   In the middle of winter, with snow on the ground, there's a really significant feeling of the wild as you hunt for cocoons under the sound of great horned owls and their mating calls.   You either get it or you don't.

Respect, this post is nature woke AF. I usually think about wildness in terms of physically larger species, especially birds. But I personally need to learn more about our insect brethren. Is this post banter? Yes. Is this thread a disaster and clearly everyone is intoxicated? Yes. Do I take mirtazipine? Yes, agree with @mappy, it's a lifesaver and mental healthcare is healthcare. Go amwx mid atl

A LOT of clouds out there on what was supposed to be a sunny day - the models always miss that on the day after a substantial rainfall it will nearly always be cloudy in the afternoon.

Yeah, these cloudy days are starting to be a drag here. Looks like more of the same for the next week. I need to get to somewhere sunny!

What'd I do this time? Like what did I do wrong today?

I'll say this constructively: just post less. Post fewer posts. Then people's opinions of you will improve. It's fun to be part of the conversation but too many posts are overwhelming. give everyone their chance. If you see your own name multiple times on a single page of a thread often that is probably a bad sign.  I don't mind your posts but sometimes I think there are too many of them and this applies to some others as well.  I know very little about meteorology, and I've picked up some basic stuff, so I try to limit my posts.

Also, pet peeve, but please complete your gerunds. We ain't talkin' like we be livin' down in alabammy, this here is the mid-atlantic forum and it ain't lookin' like we need to be typin' like this!

If you are a snow lover in the mid Atlantic how do you even maintain a semblance of happiness , there should be some psychological studies that look at developing coping mechanisms and maybe society can benefit from the way these folks have adapted , assuming they aren’t miserable

Butting in; we do not maintain a semblance of happiness and we are all depressed. Our forum has been mostly a complete disaster since the "epic pattern" and "brutal cold" before christmas produced light flurries and high temps in the high 20s.  But then we get a KU every 7 years and we're ok. 0.0" for the year

Now we are out to February 6. Give it a few more days and we will be talking about mid-February.

Normally I disagree with your (or anyone's) pessimism but as we near february and we keep can-kicking past 240 I have to agree. I think I need to take a couple days off and see if we're still "in it" by the weekend. But I won't.  :weenie:
