Nov/Dec have been tough going lately here in UHI hell.  They used to be more exciting.   Here are my last five 1"+ events in Nov/Dec in reverse chron.  That's right.  Five early season 1" events in 14 years. Of course some of my 0.25"'s might have been 3-6" storms for Carroll/Jeff/Fred

It would be nice to chase something even if it's just 1-3" for the city

    12/16/20 - 1.0"

    11/15/18 - 2.0"

    12/9/17 - 2.25"

    12/8/13 - 1.0"

    12/16/10: 1.5"

Well this is a depressing but good summary. I moved inside the beltway (from PA) in December 2010 lol

As someone who loves weather, this is crazy boring. It has been beautiful and I've been loving the trail conditions where I normally hike. I do enjoy the change in seasons. I'd prefer cool, damp, normal conditions. I like being outside during all four seasons. Having only two seasons is definitely kinda weird and not easy to get use to.

Yep, this is the most astoundingly boring period of weather I can remember in my 14 years here in the DC area. I don't mind the sunshine at all, but the 75+ temps in early Nov can go.  New normal :(

  3. Broken record with the CPC maps which I will refrain from posting because they always look the same now. But seriously the 8-14 outlook has been wall to wall red for weeks and weeks.  Any long-range stuff post D14 suggesting that will change with any indication of reliability?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Something feels inherently “wrong” when you walk outside in late season warmth like this. Low sun angle and warm air just isn’t right.

Yep. Our bodies adjust to lower temperatures well (that's why those first sunny days in the 60s in spring feel so great). Of course now all we get is 60s, 70s, and apparently 80s from oct-march.

I do appreciate the sunshine though.

I'll take above normal temps in early November.  Pretty nice weather.

Yeah, I'm not complaining. My heat hasn't even kicked on the last few days. Solar gain is great.

However, if those maps are red wall to wall come DJF... I'll be sad.

  6. Yesterday on the Patuxent River in Southern Anne Arundel.  Muted colors here and there; a few brilliant reds and yellows. Mostly dogwoods and the odd hickory in yellow. Beeches and oaks still almost entirely green as midsummer. Poplars green or yellow/browning from dry conditions at the crowns.

I've found in my 14 years in southern Moco/PGC beltway area that best color is usually around Oct 31-Nov 7.

Each year Fall late summer weather extends deeper in November,  and at times December.  Nothing new this year. Ocean temps still near 67 F.   Beach weather next week.

SE may set some records with warmth possible along the ring of the WAR.

Every year for the last couple years, I've thought: I really need to book a weekend in Lewes or Rehoboth in mid-to late October. Strong odds it will be warm enough to swim, and dry.  Next year!

  8. Avoiding a frost thus far inside the beltway, though we dropped to 40ish in Silver Spring.

CPC outlooks look warm and dry the next 6-14 days. Glorious end to this month, unlike September? Unless of course you like rain. Not much of that coming.
