    I have a friend who moved from Chantilly to CHO a couple of years ago. She cashed in on snow in Dec. My son has a couple of friends heading back early to UVA today. You will do well down there again!

    Good morning from Fairfax! It was fantastic to wake up to an upgrade to WSW! I’m very optimistic about an over performing storm tonight and tomorrow. I keep raising the bar for mby. Earlier this week I was hoping for 3”, then 5”, now I expect 6”, but 8-10 would make me ecstatic! Just need the low to park where it needs to. We typically do quite well in Banding from the coast. Hope everyone around here does well! Currently 27/19 DP

    While I love the Canadians, their short range models have given us many false hopes the past few years. They should be snow experts, so I’m hoping this is correct. I’m a little confused about timing. I believe the light snow is starting in the DC metro area on Saturday afternoon with more snow overnight. What is the end time frame? I’ve seen people say it will be over by Sunday afternoon and others say it will be snowing lightly through early Monday morning. Thought? Thank you all for your wonderful analysis.

    I absolute love all this excitement about the pattern. I have no idea what the classic pattern looks like other than -NAO, -AO, etc. And the pretty blues on our side of the map. My question is, what is KU? Thank you!

    I keep checking on the storm for this weekend, but love to see all of the optimism on this board about the next several weeks. Especially if we fail this time around.

    That makes sense. But it makes me wonder why local tv mets would base a 10 day forecast on the GFS Op to tell people our next storm would only be rain.

    I’m excited about the 20-22, but wondering why people are thinking it will rain. Isn’t the pattern cold enough to support snow?

    I’m ok with a smaller event, but am also looking forward to next weekend (20-21). Isn’t 1899 the top DC snowstorm?

    My weather channel app keeps telling me that rain is on the way, but 2 people in Fairfax have texted me about seeing bursts of snow.

    It will happen. We just need the perfect storm around here and we can get 2 feet. It can be frustrating since we have had several bad years.

    Actually, the small 5” wet snow in DC was Feb 2-3 according to a CWG article about Snowmageddon. So Feb 4th in the TN valley should have been the main event that hit us Feb 5th.

    We’ve all been on pins and needles waiting for the Euro. Sounds like it’s going be a good run!

    While I’m a bit frustrated at losing out in Dec, I agree with Ji and others about similarities with ‘09-‘10. Hopefully things will take a turn our way. I’m also pretty confident that we won’t be able to really know what will happen with this system until around Thursday or later. It seems we need the cold air and the northern system tonight to set up and we need the PAC storm to get on land and consolidate before we will know what will happen. Hoping for something more than flurries to bolster confidence around here.

    Something I started noticing back in ‘13-‘14 and then in ‘14-‘15, was that the Euro had a tendency to sniff out storms in the long range, lose them in the medium, and pick them back up in the short range. Just a casual observation.

    He could be right, but I don’t know how many times I’ve heard him say “there is no way this thing is going north”.... and it went north.

    As long as there isn’t another wall of pressure there, it should shift north.

    Nooo!!!! It’s just a control run, right? I’m just gonna blame it on the shutdown. That seems reasonable.
