  1. Are the below zero temps still a possibility the last week in January?
  2. I remember that storm. The Mets kept saying we would have rain. It was snowing constant at about 42 degrees (Fairfax). My husband was driving friends to BWI, so I know they had snow there too.
  3. We’ve got plenty of time to bring it south. Look how far north we moved the last storm.
  4. Great detailed notes. I mentioned yesterday that we had a lousy pattern in '13-'14 and '14-'15 but it just seemed to want to snow. Lots of of moderate events.
  5. I’m wondering when a thread might be started for the 20th-21st? I get that we don’t like to jinx our threats, but it looks like there is either going to be rain then a flash freeze and then snow, or snow, rain, ice, or whatever. My concern is that a lot of people are traveling for the MLK weekend.. it’s now 6 days away.
  6. He is! My husband follows him on FB and loves to read his reports to me. As if I don’t know snow is coming. Lol
  7. So even if we miss out on next weekend's mega storm, we have more snow to look forward to at the end of January?
  8. It's been great reading your posts all the way from Texas. Your enthusiasm for our snow is genuinely appreciated. I always loved your positivity in this forum the past couple of years and I'm glad you can keep it up from down south!
  9. Someone mentioned ‘94 as an analog. I was thinking about that year yesterday when I saw the Jan 28th map with well-below zero temps. That wasn’t a great year in terms of snow here, I believe. I was in Louisville in early ‘94 and TWC was calling for an inch of snow but we woke up to 13”. And the temps stayed below zero most of the week so they couldn’t melt anything. Everything shut down, including the interstate for several days. When I talked to my mom back here, she said everything was shut down due to extreme ice and then bitter cold temps. I’m rooting for snow, as of course we all are.
  10. I wasn’t following this forum in ‘13-‘14 or ‘14-‘15, but I remember hearing everyone talk about the PV. I believe we didn’t have a -AO or -NAO those winters, but scored big on a lot of moderate snows due to the PV going south. Is the PV wreaking havoc on the AO and NAO? Just wondering since the AO was supposed to be negative for a while.
  11. So the NWS canceled the WSW and changed it to an Advisory continuing 1-2 more inches until 5 am. I thought that was odd.
  12. Shocking! I don’t think they have ever measured more than the western burbs. We had 30” in January ‘16 and they measured 17”.
  13. The Northern trend was real in this storm. We thought Fredericksburg was the bullseye, and then just south of DC. And the short term models keeps moving a bit north. But just south really suffered from the mix and north and west did very well!
  14. It definitely helped to boost the morale on this forum. Especially after 3 terrible years. And this was supposed to be no big deal. I think most are satisfied (except Ji, of course). And probably the Northern MD crew.
  15. You did quite well considering you were happy with 2-4 just a few days ago!
  16. When you all officially measure, do you measure, scrape, then measure later, and keep adding totals throughout the day? I feel like it’s bedn snowing quite a while, but I still have just around 7.5.
  17. Had about 5” before noon, now 7”. I’m hoping for 8”, but would have loved 12”. In Fairfax Co. just west of Fairfax City. Just enjoying the fact that it’s still snowing.
  18. True. Once the Euro picked it up, it didn’t waver much. Hopefully it will be reliable the rest of the winter.
  19. But didn’t the GEFS and CMC see this storm long before EPS?
  20. What are the various ensembles indicating at this point?
  21. No we thought we would see accumulating snow this morning How much do you have? It just picked up in Fairfax. Big flakes...been light all morning. Hope it gets to you!
