  1. Of which, we don't have one to track, so we look ahead to the future and take stock in what's ahead, even if it is 30-45 days in the future. This is supposed to be a fun hobby so I'm baffled by the negative commentary against snow maps of said future. Everyone knows (or should know) they're for entertainment, if not wishcasting. But for cryin' out loud, let's enjoy the pretty colors together in this otherwise polarized society.
  2. Earlier today I was listening to Go or Go Ahead, a stirring song IMO while thinking about our snow debacle and arrived at much the same thing....When replacing the word "love" with "snow", well, I couldn't help but laugh. Enjoy. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AYb5vyBuD3E
  3. What a tool bag! There's one thing I can't stand and it's people who point out when they're right and/or can't admit when they're wrong. Irritates the hell out of me.
  4. Frustrated that 850 is below 0 but still rain. So Frustrating. Worst winter ever You're too funny Ji! "Worst Winter ever" on the first day of said Winter.... Let's just delay our collective call on THIS being the worst of all time just yet. Although, you may be proven correct, I'm going to hold out hope for a middle of the road Winter myself with three months of it to go. Heck March around these parts can be interesting!
  5. Thank you George! This is, of course, what I wanted to hear and felt in my gut. It's always nice to hear from some more polished and experienced weather nuts than my own slanted view so, again, THANK YOU!
  6. Hello all! There's a rather important event taking place within my family (it's a secret to one person in particular, hence my lack of detail, but you all don't care anyway)... I'm reaching out to the resident experts on this board asking the following: for tomorrow, July 1, while the chance of rain/T-storms doesn't look particularly that great at the moment, the Weather.com site is giving us the feeling there's a risk of such outcomes tomorrow. My question is (and I know no one has a crystal ball here) would you suspect there's more of a chance of rain before noon tomorrow or after 4:00? I'm guessing the answer is clearly after 4:00, that there's a bigger chance which is when this event is currently scheduled and we'd like to keep it that way but rain will ruin this. My review of AccuWeather just now is projecting an 18& - 25% chance in the afternoon at best but I question the algorithms used to produce those numbers as I've seen them change on a dime. Looking for some expert guidance so I can consult my future son-in-law here. How safe are we to proceed with our 4:00 - 5:00ish window near Reagan National? Thank you in advance!
  7. Well then, we're due! Longshot, I know but springtime brings such a roller-coaster of temp swings that almost anything is possible. 90 degrees one day followed by a chance at frozen on its heels.
  8. Hey Ji! When is this projected to occur? I'm not catching that detail and am curious. Every trackable system through March, in my book! Hell, early April if we've got some cold lingering around .
  9. I can't make heads or tails of what you're trying to depict here. I've read it three times and am perplexed at what words you may have left out. What the hell is going on here?
  10. I actually don't know why they would have a thread and be so anxious to talk about something that happens weekly and isn't special to them like it is around here. To northerners, snow can become annoying, commonplace. Here, it's like that unicorn that brings a giddy feeling inside your gut. But above all, whether or not we start a thread, won't change any outcomes to our weather. Something I KNOW you all know but just felt the need to point out. Now, let's start this thing!
  11. Do what I do and just don't go at all. Stay home and enjoy the weather while avoiding the multitude of germs out there. Lots of excuses these days.
  12. I think we all agree with that. It's the choice between one big dawg to later melt away, or many small cuts keeping our neighborhoods white( I'm speaking about our lawns of course) resulting in an extended feeling of a real winter. At least that was my take on it. That said, I'm happy with anything we get these days.
  13. Just stopped snowing here just southeast of Haymarket. I love these snows. So picturesque but lost part of one of my crape myrtle stalks. Worth it! Really enjoyed the build up to this storm. I'm a bit melancholy that it's behind us, at least in my mind. Looking forward to the next chase.
  14. I've always thought Mt. Washington was where the lowest temps in the US have been reported. Just did a search and found this: "The coldest temperature recorded in the contiguous U.S. is 70 degrees below zero, measured at Rogers Pass, Montana, on Jan. 20, 1954. Not sure if it was the coldest but Mt Washington NH had a wind chill of 102 below f about 20 yrs ago. It was 35 below f with a wind speed of 95 mph." I too thought the record was colder than this. Then again, us humans tend to exaggerate from time to time, especially when it comes to weather.
  15. Hello! Mine are Lat: 38.865233 Long: -77.602449 Thank you... good idea!
  16. Yes! That's what we've got here in Haymarket, just 3 miles north of Haymarket on RT 15. The ground and now the roads are whitening. I wasn't expecting that. Luckily, it's all sleet here after earlier starting as freezing rain. At least it's pretty!
  17. The Vincent van Gogh model view is a dandy! Fun times ahead for sure!
  18. That's true but one would think, being a national meteorologist with his audience, he'd give portrayals of these storms in totality and without discrimination. I love how he delivers his analysis but I too have noticed the northern MA and New England bias and hearing him today actually got me quite concerned.
  19. Or latitude in this case. The Powerhouse impact of this storm on both sides of the country is quite incredible and looks to save our winter!
  20. Well, I dearly miss his contribution and perspective as so many of us, if not all, do. Would be a great sign for this storm if he were to suddenly make an appearance; solely for the paranoid, superstitious members among us.
  21. Nor do I? Additionally, I know not of this Ravensrule of whom you speak. He must be stand-up, solid guy.
  22. Now it's crystal clear and I thank you and Bristow for your illustrative explanation. I'm a bit thick-headed from time to time...
  23. Now what makes you think the above image gives us the shaft? I don't see it.
  24. Okay, I'll bite.... what comet are you referring to? Color me intrigued/worried. And, damn it, we're going to have a solid winter this season fueled by a back loaded series of storms to get us close to normal totals... I'm feeling the law of averages are in our favor as we're due!
