  1. Walt, snowfall for 6 consecutive days on Long Island?
  2. Yes, the classic 1973 storm (or was it 1974?) Hard to find data on the biggest ice storms online unlike with snowstorms, unless you personally experienced them
  3. Hey neighbor, got one for my area? Looks like around 5" in the Hazelton area- I'm just east of that as you know. One storm can change a pattern- remember Boxing Day 2010?
  4. also lab creates artificial meat by using lab cultures of cow cells, uses 3D printer to mass produce, "new meat" will be in stores soon!
  5. you must not have been around in January 1994. There was 12-24 hours of freezing rain with temps in the single digits. I remember seeing a report out of Poughkeepsie..... "heavy freezing rain temp 3 degrees" !
  6. it's already happened here and it was far bigger than what's on those maps. I dont think Jan 1994 will ever be equaled.
  7. uhhh it already happened and it was far bigger than 97- I'm talking about January 1994 historic ice storm. It was so beautiful! We had everything that winter, big snowstorms with thundersnow during the day back to back in February, historic ice storm in January and two shots of subzero cold! and even a big sleet storm before the ice storm lol. We had close to 2 inches of ice on the south shore of Long Island!
  8. Can it also happen during the day? I love that stuff too, seeing it makes me feel like I'm dreaming lol. I hope we get to see it this winter, it's very rare down here!
  9. suppression is also in play (a reverse gradient pattern?) as the next storm will miss us to the south.
  10. Question is can February reach or exceed 30" of snow or even 40".....we're going to get past 20" this month before Valentine's Day! Heck, we're not even 10 days into the month yet!
  11. what's this thing we sometimes get- last time I saw it was in 2015 which was also extremely cold in February right to the end of the month.....the skies were crystal clear deep blue, but I saw these tiny snow flakes, they looked like little diamonds, floating down from the sky? nothing on radar of course
  12. wow that reminds me of some record Siberian cold high pressures....isn't there a record from there of around 31.00 inches?
  13. Thanks, it seems like the big AO/NAO block has been keeping us from hitting 50 and looks like that might continue for the rest of the month. I read that Philly got 9 inches from the last storm? Can you double check that?
  14. reminds me of a less colder version of 93-94, though the big snowstorm at the beginning of the month was larger than anything we got back then
  15. thanks I love this table! you can sort through the dataset any way you like
  16. and even when it's cold the snow seems to melt much faster- is that because of more urbanization, the salt in the air near the ocean or both?
  17. you're just south of my other home, I cant imagine how bad it will be in Jim Thorpe this spring. Our only hope is it never melts and just keeps snowing the entire year lol
  18. I remember that and it left a sour taste in my mouth for the entire winter. I preferred 14-15 far more, much colder and better back half to winter...and the first really good March event we've had in a long time and started the streak of snowy Marches lol. You've got some elevation in your new location in addition to being further north, so you should do really well in marginal situations.
  19. this was my favorite storm of the season so far, all day sunrise to sunset storm with puffy fluffy snow sticking to everything! 7" at JFK and 7-8 across much of Long Island
  20. this reminds me of a storm we had in Feb 2010 where we got 4 inches and Long Beach was less than an inch, very marginal storm just like this one. Did you see my post in the Banter thread? Some people just dont want to admit we're having a snowy season lol.
  21. He needs to be introduced to this guy. For Valentine's Day....they'd be a perfect match. In the same thread he said that Albuquerque hasn't hit 60 degrees this winter while NYC has hit it numerous times lol. I told him we're in a record streak of not even hitting 50 let alone 60 lol. 6 hours ago, raindancewx said: Philadelphia only got 0.7 inches of snow today. Less for DC/Baltimore. That's consistent with the pattern of marginal temperatures (never dropped below freezing in Philadelphia today - that seemed pretty likely given the warmth yesterday) that's been there and south of Philly all winter. The snow totals for much of the east are near average or below for the date, despite a small area from central New England to NYC and North Central PA doing pretty well. My big theory for this winter has been that the cycles are well established at about 45-days. So the big Nor'easter cycle is: late Oct-->mid Dec-->2/1-->mid March. Not really expecting any huge snow dumps until then. We'll see though. Temperatures start to climb as you get later in February even as the oceans are still getting colder. There was a lot of small crap that never really materialized as big snowstorms for the NE between mid-Dec and 2/1. That's where we are now I think.
