  1. Too bad no more 30s like we had last May. Don, when was the last 30s last year, was it May 10th, and how low did we get in NYC and JFK, 36-38? I think both had a T of snow too, on Friday and Saturday?
  2. Please keep in mind seeing a wall cloud or even a funnel doesn't mean it was tornadic, the funnel needs to actually touch the ground for it to be tornadic.
  3. Thats the one! I was away on summer vacation when I got back I heard that there was really large hail in SW Nassau and a car dealership had thousands of dollars worth of damage to their cars. In the newspaper report it was listed as 6" hail which must've been wrong, 2" sounds closer to reality. It only lasted 2-3 minutes? Was it a middle of the day event?
  4. they can switch to nuclear, losing coal shouldn't be that big of a deal considering that it's an archaic fuel source. Coal puts more radiation into the environment than nuclear anyway.
  5. same thing happened last year, but in May
  6. we need to embargo the shit out of these nations that are using coal. We need Iran-level sanctions on them
  7. Major announcement for tomorrow, Earth Day, Biden's plan to cut carbon emissions in half by 2030! Also, the plan to produce only electric vehicles by 2035 are estimated to save us about 2.7 trillion dollars. https://qz.com/1999656/biden-plans-to-cut-us-carbon-emissions-in-half-within-the-decade/
  8. that makes for an interesting experiment in different blocking scenarios and different times of the season I always thought KC-NYC and CHI-BOS comparisons were worthwhile since they seem to have similar snowfall averages. The most stark difference is in 10" or more storm totals, wow!
  9. is he chasing the twister, or is the twister chasing him?
  10. right, it would probably have to be April 1982 like cold, which I don't even know if it's possible anymore that late in the season. But with how severe that cold was, even if that had happened a month later, it would have probably snowed.
  11. that sounds like the best area for hail because it's where the sea breeze front sets up.
  12. it's hailing here again it actually sounds like pebbles hitting my windows, the funny thing is the rain is really light though and the winds are really strong
  13. yeah we had that hail about 10-15 min ago along with blinding rain, it was pretty exciting. I think I remember the event you mentioned, and there was one on the north sure of Queens too....something like hours of hail with snow plows out lol.
  14. I was wondering if it would be possible to get that kind of snow here this late in the season with a direct shot of arctic shot here instead of having one go to the west and then come here later on. But those have become so rare that it might be a once in 30 year event now.
  15. the thunder and hail came back along with the rain but not nearly as heavy as before
  16. and just like that it's over....that's why I dont care much for these kinds of storms, they just dont last long enough
  17. yes! Thats what I saw and heard! along with the blindingly heavy rain. It looked more like dime sized to me though
  18. whats the record for hail size all time in NYC and nearby area (like Long Island, Nassau County, etc?) Also in terms of duration (how long it lasts and how much can accumulate at one time?)
  19. this is definitely hail I see crashing into my windows here and extremely heavy rain like a waterfall!
  20. wow it's raining here so hard I can't see anything outside well except this new waterfall right outside my windows lol and sounds like hail!
  21. it goes with the NWS forecasts for a hot May
  22. How is it that Kansas City averages less snow than us during the winter but is more likely to get more snow than us now?
