  1. well all the roads I could see with my eyes ;-) lol the funny thing was that it would snow hard for like 20 minutes then cars would come through and you could see tracks, and then another snow squall would come through and bury the tracks again, this happened several times between 4 PM and 11 PM, the last one started around 10, snowed hard to about 10:30 and lower rates of intensity after that until it petered out by 11. The first one that everyone was talking about wasn't the one that laid the snow cover on the roads though, it was the ones that came after that. I guess it was still too warm when the first one came through?
  2. thats what it looked like here, except whenever a new snow squall pushed through those tracks got covered up again. We had like half a dozen different snow squalls between 4 PM and 11 PM, each lasted about 20-30 minutes with a ton of wind and lots of blowing snow too.
  3. you would have liked it in Long Beach ;-)
  4. last year's was puny here, with this one all the roads were snow covered and it was snowing hard most of the evening!
  5. I dont know Ed, this was my best snow squall event I've ever witnessed in the over 30 years that I remember them.
  6. I thought this one was a lot stronger, more widespread and definitely lasted MUCH longer. No surprise- it's December, when the lakes are the warmest.
  7. We had around an inch here in SW Nassau too, 7 hours of snow *4PM-11PM* and roads were snow-covered for most of the night!
  8. That was 7 hours of snow here! Roads were snow covered, easily my best snow squall event ever!
  9. Got about an inch here, the roads were snow covered several times and it snowed at varying rates between 4 PM and 11 PM. Had lots of blowing snow too! Wasn't there a local area spotter total posted?
  10. I thought it was in January, the one where we had like 6 hours of true blizzard conditions during the day? A smaller version of the January 2016 blizzard.
  11. this is mostly accounting though, as I would include 2009-10 as part of the current decade. and I would consider 15.2 inches an HECS lol, MECS is like 8-12 inches.
  12. out of all those winters, the only one that was really good was 2014-15
  13. that was my best snow squall EVER, it snowed at varying rates for 7 hours, from 4 PM to 11 PM and all the roads here were snow covered multiple times!
  14. Next week is going to be our Indian summer lol.
  15. Chris, that was my greatest snow squall ever- it snowed here at varying rates for 7 hours, from 4 PM to 11 PM and all the roads were snow covered! Have you ever seen anything like this before?
  16. Last night was a new memory for me- the greatest series of snow squalls I have ever seen! It snowed from 4 PM to 11 PM at varying rates and all the roads here were snow covered!
  17. Don, in place of Yatutat you can use Verhoyansk or Omjakon. Those three locations are often cited as the three coldest locations in the Northern Hemisphere and they are in the same geographical area. Also, I heard that Australia beat its hottest temp ever recorded (beating the record from last year), is this true and what is the new record? Is it 120 recorded at Forrest?
  18. thats correct, but there are lots of natural processes that are highly destructive.
  19. Not to mention all the toxic chemicals from the farms being drained into large bodies of waters and causing a massive die off. FYI these are also toxic to humans and are now being found in local lakes and aquifers where we get our drinking water from.
  20. People always think the population problem is overblown and yet...... NOAA scientists said that overpopulation is the major reason why we face a climate change crisis and the best way to reduce your carbon footprint has been listed as having one less child. It's also a great way to lower pollution (as an example, Delhi was recently enveloped in so much smog that people couldn't breathe.) This is a pretty progressive point, as it's also been mentioned in the NY Times and Wa Po. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2017/07/best-way-reduce-your-carbon-footprint-one-government-isn-t-telling-you-about The best way to reduce your carbon footprint is one the government isn’t telling you about By Sid PerkinsJul. 11, 2017 , 4:30 PM Recycling and using public transit are all fine and good if you want to reduce your carbon footprint, but to truly make a difference you should have fewer children. That’s the conclusion of a new study in which researchers looked at 39 peer-reviewed papers, government reports, and web-based programs that assess how an individual’s lifestyle choices might shrink their personal share of emissions. Many commonly promoted options, such as washing clothes in cold water or swapping incandescent bulbs for light-emitting diodes, have only a moderate impact (see chart, below), the team reports today in Environmental Research Letters. But four lifestyle choices had a major impact: Become a vegetarian, forego air travel, ditch your car, and—most significantly—have fewer children.
  21. yes and the president of Brazil letting the Amazon burn for more farmland.
  22. people still have a sour taste after March 2001. like people still have a sour taste after Jan 2015, even though the season was excellent after that (and much better than 2000-01).
  23. Boston has run well ahead of us too, it's all about latitude.
  24. I for one am not frustrated, I just dont like rain and cant wait for drier weather with lots of sunshine- regardless of temps lol. I do get frustrated when someone tries to say that we've been "unlucky." This has nothing to do with luck, it's all part of the pattern, just like it was last winter. Years ago I remember seeing a chart that went something like this: December: Inland (snow) City (mixed) Long Island (rain) January: Inland (snow) City (snow) Long Island (mixed) February: Inland (snow) City (snow) Long Island (snow) I think this needs to be retooled a bit, as the big winter storms seem to start around January 20th now. December is really more like an exhibition month, the preseason lol.
