2018 stands out because it was an extreme backloaded season while the others were snowy throughout. I figured you'd say April 1982 stands out too because how cold and snowy that storm was, as great as any of the top 10 in March.

Chris, what do you think of the early April peak? There are two April snowstorms that would make the top 10 March list too. I find April snowstorms to be more memorable than what I've seen in March. Does the early April peak result in major snowstorms like either of the March peaks (4"+)? Let's use the airports as a base.

I've kind of tried to limit myself to not doing more than 2 consecutive posts where I can lol, it's a workaround to the multiquote thing lol. We should add you to this list too, for thinking there's going to be a baseball season this year haha.

Thanks. People should respect how great April 1982 was in that it would almost make the list of Top 10 March snowfalls too! And the April 1910 storm (I hope I have the year right?) would be in the top 10 too. I should remember this storm ..6.9" 3/8-9/1984 But I do not.... all snow? And I definitely dont remember this ..8.6" 3/5/1981 too young, April 1982 which happened the following year was my first snowfall memory.

I remember this one so vividly ..6.2" 3/19/1992 It was NYC first 6"+ snowfall in YEARS, here it kept changing back and forth between snow and rain and we got like 4"...can you check the JFK numbers for this storm, please? Wasn't there another one in the early 90s when we had two snow events in March, I remember one was forecast to be 5-8" but we ended up with 3-5" instead....was that also in March 1992 or a different year?

Well at least we have a range of dates to focus on....between March 10 to March 20. Anything after that would likely be insignificant to minor (under 4"). But I think people on here dont care as long as it's something it's considered a snowy pattern.

lol I know it's just fun to characterize it that way because of the way it's described in local weather forecasts, I always thought those areas got 100" plus of snow every year. It always shocks me when they get less snow than us because I'm conditioned from the 80s where N/W always got double or triple times the snow we did in every storm.

I had to do a double and triple take..... NYC, JFK AND LGA WERE ALL 4.0"? HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE? Looks like we had 6" here and there was close to a foot of snow on the north shore of LI

thats weird I thought the snow min was after the 22nd, as I remember a few events right around the equinox. dont we also have an interesting lack of 100 degree days in the last week of July?

Yep, all part of the Apps. but I keep looking at Monticello temps and it's intolerably cold. Granted the southern Poconos where my other home is can get really cold too, but it hits the 60s there almost every winter a few times. It's just one county NW of Allentown.

Seems like a lot of our March events. Funnily, we then have early April events which drop a lot more snow during the day like April 2003 and April 2018

1996 was outstanding with three 4"+ events in March and another one in April here. When did it snow here in March 1999 and how much did we get?

Thanks, I actually like going to the Poconos, because it's not as cold there as it is further north. Camelback is pretty good to ski at without getting the extreme cold of Upstate NY.

Nope anything north of Southern Westchester is upstate to me. There are mountains in Rockland (or so I heard) where people go hiking. That's all Catskills to me and I don't go there

There has to be something other than this that would bring about an -AO? Dont singular AO regimes have a limited lifespan anyway....after a few weeks they revert back to what they were before? What exactly is it that would keep the +AO going....does it feedback into something else?

lol sorry, I just dont really like going out of major cities unless I'm at my other house and even that really annoys me because everything is so far away from each other. Besides skiing why exactly would one go to the Catskills?

yup lol thats true too, but the amazing part for me is actually knowing it's the last time I'll see it for 6+ months so when you know it's the last time you enjoy it more. I think the April 2018 6" snowstorm was gone a day later but the one in April 2003 (also 6" here) was actually around for 3 days afterwards....not that it actually mattered, getting an all day snowstorm in April was what was amazing about it.
