  1. So more snow with the 10:1 than Kuchera? Thats a switch
  2. yeah could be like 2-4, what time is the heaviest supposed to be?
  3. Locals here are talking about 2-4 inches of snow grassy areas only
  4. do you think we could get into the 70s too, Don? JFK hit 69 in late February, I cant remember the last time it hit 70 here
  5. JFK was also in the 60s, not sure of what the exact high was, it was in the low to mid 60s here
  6. ice blocks? I'd go full on liquid hellum, the coldest substance known to humankind. I dont understand why we aren't going headlong into climate engineering. It's obvious we wont stop fossil fuels anytime soon and as a matter of fact the new IPCC report projects a 14% increase of fossil fuel consumption by 2030, so the only alternative is to pour trillions into climate modification and resiliency projects.
  7. there's a positive to this....strong SE ridge means we should avoid that dreaded cool wet pattern that people were talking about, so hopefully we'll have a nice prelude to summer aka the spring and summer of 2002.
  8. So this is interesting, because of the warming of the west pacific we could actually be in a permanent or semi permanent la nina state? That would be a good reason to move the hell away from coastal areas- not because of lack of snowfall, but because coastal areas will probably be wrecked by a barrage of tropical systems every year. I'm glad I have my other house in the Poconos.
  9. really 12-14" for eastern parts of the city and over here. and 21-26" seasonal snowfall
  10. Then of course the question becomes why have we had a persistent lack of blocking this winter-- what caused the +AO/+NAO to be so persistent this year?
  11. No I just mean a break from the rain for like 2 weeks and not this 4 rainstorms in 2 weeks. I would like to see the kind of rainfall pattern we had in the 80s, which was something like 3-4 inches of rain per month total.
  12. excellent, I've been buying outdoor lights that use LiPO batteries, I wonder if this is similar?
  13. which is confusing-- shouldnt we have fewer la ninas with climate change? why doesn't the entire pacific heat up?
  14. no rain at all is far preferable....honestly, who needs or wants rain? I'd much rather have heat and dry heat at that
  15. right that wasnt historic for us, I enjoyed March 2015 much more than either March 1993 or March 2018 for that matter.
  16. same 26" here in SW Nassau, pretty decent
  17. thats weird you got less snow than I did....I had 26" here which is about average.
  18. Might as well get used to that, it looks like that is the new base state too, I thought you and some others said that warm sst are good for big bombing snowstorms? Maybe its too much of a good thing and we are finally seeing the other side of the equation now, where its actually heating up the atmosphere, where before it was only adding more moisture and energy to storms, causing higher snowfall totals?
  19. who are these people who think that -NAO are more common than +NAO? From everything I've seen +NAO is the base state and lasts longer than -NAO, which are fleeting and only last for short bursts. On top of that not all -NAO are good anyway, we have east and south based ones which are bad for us. So in most cases the NAO is unfavorable.
  20. We're now at a time of year where we need anomalous cold to get a decent snow event. "doesn't look warm" isn't going to be good enough
  21. It's almost like Manhattan has the least chance to have decent snowfall than the rest of the area, because chances are there will be more snowfall to the east, west, north and south. Manhattan is a true thread the needle location that needs all the indices to be perfectly lined up.
