  1. oh that gazebo looks nice, is that where you guys were having lunch?
  2. Oh California has those too. I'm not sure the Florida beaches are all that clean =\ (not sure about Cali beaches being clean either to be fair.)
  3. This is very true. We'll have another party when we measure the first 1.0" lol To show how little this is, there's a construction crew outside right now drilling on my street. They never do this in bad weather.
  4. It puzzles me how JFK also only measured a T for that event when it was clearly a half inch 4 miles to the east of there. I wonder what JFK measured in this storm....where is the PNS for this event?
  5. It reminds me of the old days when we had max/min thermometers that had red dyed liquid and blue dyed liquid for each end and saved the max/min readings. The last time I saw one of those was back in the 80s....
  6. omg Forky is going to throw a parade. They started doing some drilling last week on my block and I thought they'd take a break for the bad weather but they're back again this morning and sounds like a construction site ugh, my house is shaking.
  7. Exactly! There was more snow than this here in December! What was the JFK measurement? Wow they started construction here again! omg! The drilling! Not even taking a break in the snow and cold lol.
  8. It's actually less than what we got in December. I see now why Forky laughs at snowfall "measurements" they are highly variable, imprecise and not really scientific.
  9. Arizona or interior California is a lot better, forget Florida, yuck.
  10. Don are the blue and orange cold records from those 30 year periods? I can't fathom a warm record being 31 degrees between 1961-1990.
  11. Ugh so we actually made it to freezing before midnight last night? That's annoying but at least we still tied the record (which is still a record.) Don what was the highest average Jan high (was it 50?) and what year did it happen in? Thanks!
  12. With much lower humidity it would be a lot better Get rid of that pesky Gulf of Mexico
  13. So 1 more than September 1983 had? That sounds like it was the hottest September on record on both avg temperature and number of 90 degree days!
  14. the 1970s was definitely MUCH better
  15. I think it's partly or mostly instinct. Think about where humanity evolved.
  16. Thanks Don, it sounds amazing and yet it didn't make the 2 sigma mark! I see only two months from the 1880s did.
  17. Wow right up there with March 2012! I didn't realize September 2015 was so warm! Did it have a lot of 90 degree days just like September 1983 did? How come September 1983 isn't on this list-- that was one amazing month for heat! Nice to see August 1980 on this list and two months from 2010! Those were some of my favorite summers! July 1999 was the hottest summer month we've ever had, closely followed by July 2010
  18. Yes, but the standing water I'm talking about spraying are puddles left over from excess rainfall. The birds drink from my pond (which doesn't get sprayed.) The one with the massive wildfire? I guess there were two. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Dorado_Fire#:~:text=The fire began at 10,in southern San Bernardino County. No it was this: The El Dorado Fire was a wildfire that burned 22,744 acres (9,204 ha; 35.538 sq mi) in the San Bernardino and Riverside Counties of California in September to November 2020. It was ignited on September 5 by a pyrotechnic device at a gender reveal party in El Dorado Ranch Park, and quickly spread to the San Gorgonio Wilderness Area of the San Bernardino National Forest. Burning over a 71-day period, the fire destroyed 20 structures and resulted in one firefighter fatality, for which the couple hosting the party were charged with involuntary manslaughter. Cause[edit] The fire began at 10:23 AM (PDT) on September 5, 2020,[1] when Refugio Manuel Jimenez Jr. and Angela Renee Jimenez set off a smoke bomb at a gender reveal photoshoot at the El Dorado Ranch Park near Yucaipa, in southern San Bernardino County. The detonation of the smoke bomb lit nearby dry grass on fire, which then began to spread rapidly.[2][3] According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), the Jimenezes attempted to extinguish the fire with bottled water,[1] then reported the fire to the authorities and cooperated with their investigation.[4] The cause of the fire inspired widespread mockery and condemnation, and was frequently compared to the 2017 Sawmill Fire, conceived by an exploding target at a gender reveal party in Arizona.[5][6][7][8] https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jul/21/couple-gender-reveal-party-wildfire-charged California couple whose gender-reveal party sparked a wildfire charged with 30 crimes This article is more than 1 year old The pyrotechnic device sparked the destructive El Dorado fire, which destroyed five homes and killed one firefighter Yes, but the standing water I'm talking about spraying are puddles left over from excess rainfall. 19. That's absolutely wild Don! And nothing between summer 1876 and winter 2007? Wow! I also noticed that summer 1876 was the only one in that list that happened in the summer-- what kind of a summer did we have that year-- did we set any 90+ or even 100+ degree records for that era?
  20. That's really good, 120 minutes is about my limit for how long of a drive I want to take on a weekly basis.
