Yeah and people who dont live here say we've been lucky because no named storms have hit the east coast this year, there's been plenty of beach damage without any named storms.- 3,610 replies

I remember when the 10/91 retrograding noreaster happened, I was wondering what was going on, I had never heard of such a thing before and some news outlets were calling it a "neutercane" a term I had never heard before. -

Extended summer stormlover74 future snow hole banter thread 23

Remember it like yesterday-- it was three days of high winds plus rain ending as snow on the last day. All the fences went down here right on the first day. One of these years we will get a storm like that but it will be all snow! -
The Yankees played their home opened in the snow, it was fun seeing the snow stick to their baseball caps lol

it was stronger than either December 1992 or that March 2010 noreaster! December 1992 caused the most damage because of duration though. August 2020 ranks right below Sandy in terms of wind intensity for us.- 3,610 replies

Interesting, what sets 1995-96 from the others is that we went back to a very snowy February, March and even early April.... was that because the blocking was exceptional that winter or because the la nina was weak (as compared to 2010-11)?
-
they're banking on the el nino backend winter idea, but we have a ways to go to get cold enough for that to happen.

I live near JFK and have experienced 75 mph gusts a few times and while really scary, nothing got destroyed. The most I would expect is a short term power outage.- 3,610 replies

but thats just a temporary mild up as the real winter sets in at the beginning of February right Chris?
-
April 1982 was mighty special too. I doubt we will ever see the likes of that ever again so late in the season.
-
It's better to be in the Poconos honestly. 2 1/2 hours from NYC and you get that 2,000 ft elevation. There was over a foot at my other house there and it has the same latitude as The Bronx. South of I-80, just north of Allentown (which has the same latitude as JFK.) They also had over 30" in Jan 2016!
-
ugh I wanted it to happen during the day, I love seeing things flying around lol
-
I'm curious to see where we go from here with a la nina on the horizon for next year.
-
I mean honestly, you even said that January wouldn't be all that great, mild to start and cold/possibly snowy to finish.... and according to the latest forecasts, it looks like that will work out well.
-
is he still claiming his old screen name wasn't Tacoman? I doubt there's more than one person in Albuquerque who is so obsessed with hating the east coast so much lol. I saw what he said about your outlook-- funny that he had such specific commentary about it for someone who hasn't "read your outlook in years." I would also add narcissistic and obsessive to that list of words to describe him.
