  1. My location officially (using JFK for numbers) has not gotten below zero since January 1985 (Reagan's second inauguration)...unofficially, I was measuring temps and snowfall in 1993-94 and I'm pretty sure we went below zero here on the south shore in January 1994.
  2. I guess we got caught between two cold shots, the one that went straight down to Texas (more common pathway) and this one which will go just to our east.
  3. wood chuck? I know it's chuck something or other LOL
  4. February 2015 and even early March had them on the east end I think. SST were at 31 or 32. Freezing drizzle on an easterly wind lol
  5. I think these are different names for the same creature groundhog, prairie dog, ground chuck, etc
  6. This is the rainiest California winter since 82-83 and may even exceed that year. Despite what has been going on here this season, this winter has been good news on multiple fronts (warmer so much less heating costs, and lots of rain and snow in California who need it much more than we do.)
  7. It seems like we had the worst possible series of events this year, an early season el nino type pattern when el ninos are usually backloaded and a late season la nina pattern, when la ninas are usually front loaded or book ends. That back end la nina scenario seems to be our only hope this season and we'd probably need a major SSW for that this season.
  8. Thanks-- everyone is so kind with all the condolences, if I was going to thank everyone individually it would be like a dozen posts in a row and you know I could NEVER do that ;-) I hope you got to experience and remember 2002-03 (that Christmas snowstorm was amazing!) in Albany because that was one amazing and prolonged snowfall season up there and down here. I actually worked up in Albany in the late 90s and early 00s for a time. Lovely area and you could see the mountains even from inside the city.
  9. it means 6 more weeks of the winter we've already had. why does this get so much airtime on The Weather Channel? do they think people who are actually interested in the weather actually care about this?
  10. I'm shocked that we've always gotten to at least 25 in January before this one. I would have thought Jan 1932 or Jan 1950 would have stayed in the upper 20s or even lower 30s.
