May 15 2018 Severe Threat SNE

Pea sized hail, some of the heaviest rain I've ever seen.

    9th annual Lawn Thread 2018

Well after having the spindles on my mower rebuilt, (it used to sound like I was mowing marbles) I decided to sand and paint the machine (OCD). Mows great and the yard is looking pretty good. The clover definitely got knocked down this year between the pre and post emergent fert. I think my routine will be heavy weed and feed in the spring and core aerating and overseeding in the fall. In 3 years my lawn went from sparse old neglected grass that barely grew to this.
  3. I saw and got a couple of decent pics of 2 bald eagles at a pond of the Willimantic tic River in Tolland this morning.
  4. I just got home and heard peepers in the woods with snow covered ground. Now that's a first for me.

    9th annual Lawn Thread 2018

When I bought my house in 2014 I saw how my yard had potential but it was also neglected for many years. The previous that lived here since the 60's actually had their daughter go missing (fairly well-known case around here) and from what I hear they weren't super motivated to maintain things outside. Since moving in I've raked the yard out every spring, cut back trees overhanging the yard, lesco, core aerated, and overseeded every year. So things are getting much better. No more crabgrass and the grass is thick enough to give my commercial mower some challenges in spots. This year it's a war on clover and this other weed that has really broad leaves and deep roots, the name escapes me right now. Once I get things where I like them I'll do my spring cleanups with the backpack. Right now raking helps dethatch more aggressively.

    Snow bomb obs March 21

It's coming down moderately in Willington now. My cameras show it coming down good at home too. Game on...

    Snow bomb obs March 21

I'm starting to see a few flakes drifting down now.

    March 12/13/14 Blizzard/Winter Storm/WWA etc

Same here, it's up there with the best snow of the day. We just got back from visiting my parents on the Willington Ashford line and they have a few inches more than me. They got a better shot at the death band earlier.

I'm seeing some of the nicest flakes of the day here. We were living on the edge all day.

Starting to snow heavy here now, visibility dropping. I'm right on the ragged edge of the band in Windham county, keep it coming!!

    The King Regains its Throne

There must have been some compaction. 11" seems to be the average in my yard.

    The King Regains its Throne

By some miracle we didn't lose power. I haven't gone outside yet but we have around 3 inches on top of what I last measured. So around 13" here. I wonder if I'll have work today, we have the delay as of last night. Tick tock...

10" on the dot. I just knocked the snow off that branch, it's not pushing on the line anymore. There's a few trees in my hood that are on the ragged edge of taking out a few poles on a normal day, so if we come out of this without a some kind of prolonged outage (in my area) I'll be surprised.

Power flickering A LOT now. Inevitable at this point, we got some decent gusts making the trees groan for their lives. My old, sick ornamental cherry already lost a decent sized limb and I have another limb pushing down on my house's power line.....
