  1. That faint streamer off Ontario has floated over BUF all night. Nothing more that a dusting but as of the 854am data pull we were on consecutive hour 58 of snow. Sure it’s not something data is kept on but has to be a pretty unusual occurrence for KBUF I would assume.?
  2. Not sure how well this will post but looking at snow depth climo this has been our best year for max depth since 2014-15. We are way behind on the 1" baseline as Nov and Dec both only saw 2 days each with 1", and that was it! We followed it up with a Jan that had a 1" snow depth on 30 of the 31 days! The 6" and 12" depths will likely continue to grow for several more days but through Feb 3 here we are getting up there quick despite 0 days during the first half of the season!
  3. Damn that was a hike. Loving the snow depth. Starting to see some drifting. Only 7.9” as of midnight here still not bad… winter goes on!
  4. Looks like our next area of enhanced snow could be taking shape and sinking in. Gonna go for a hike around the neighborhood in another half hour once that settles in.
  5. cant get the wider radar to post here but after that enhanced area sinks south out of erie county things look pretty lack luster with just light snow showers and a few heavier bursts. 2-4" from now through 7am is a good call for WNY before part two fires up.
  6. Flipped right over to snow. Hour ago was moderate rain now light snow but already a nice coating on the pavement and accumulating efficiently despite the lower rates.
  7. No tim, the only place we divide the snow by FIVE is over Matts house.
  8. Snow pack is still looking good! Hard to see the picture at night but went to check the cross section i dug out in my yard last week. I would assume this would represent a good idea of WNY "untouched" snow depth. Down from 10" to 7". The bottom and middle snow layers each compacted by about a 1/2"-1" each. The bottom layer looking to have some water accumulation making a clear slushy bottom. The ground itself is frozen solid so no moisture is seeping in under the pack. In fact the enclosed dug out area that melted to grass has a thin pool building on it. The top layer appears to be absorbing a large amount of this rain as the top snow layer is turning to wet cement. Water content was 1.80" last week, would think the rain on top is adding more than the melt off underneath. Think we compact down to about 5-6" of just slop and then add this event ontop of it for a fresh start. Post event would expect water content of total snow on the ground to be in the 3"-3.5" range.
  9. Its coming through fast now again. Looks like it got hung up again just NE of Buffalo for a bit but its moving again now. I think we flip to frozen mix by 11pm. Snowpack is holding strong! The smaller piles are getting hit but the untouched pack area is still a solid 7" was 10" prior to warmup. It will hold!
  10. Rainy and still 40 at the KBUF hot tub… does the hot tub go sizzle sizzle or bubble bubble
  11. Car Wash? I haven’t washed my truck in probably 8 years. I keep the interior spotless, wouldn’t know it’s a 14 year old vehicle, but why bother washing it? 126k miles on these roads and all I’ve got is 3 small rust spots. The heat might not work anymore and the windows get stuck if you roll them down but I’m gonna miss that vehicle once I finally send her to the yard this spring.
  12. Awesome hit indeed. Even at 10-1 its shooting out over 20" and we still have 200+ hours to run!
  13. not that I hold grudges or anything but that KC loss takes away SOME of the sting for me. I’m now ready to move onto next year.
  14. 10” OTG melted down to 1.8” liquid. That thicker sleet layer took forever to finally melt. Another 2”+ of liquid possible this week which even if it starts as rain will easily absorb into this pack.
  15. ARW had this on both runs yesterday. That models has been great at picking up the sneaky little streamers this year. Always goes way overboard on QPF and snowfall output but generally does a great job with band recognition and placement. It was the only model to really pickup on that meso low event off Ontario a couple days ago.
  16. $17/hr? If your giving me a legit flame thrower I’d do it for free.
  17. Wow talk about what a smoke blow that would be if it was a rumor.
  18. Part of me wants this cold to keep going. I’ve been hawking the ice fisherman to see if they have started to venture out any further than the inner harbor yet. Had this crazy idea about taking a hike to the outer break wall. I don’t even know if it’s possible to safely walk out that far.
  19. Had some fun digging out a cross section view of the snow pack with the kids. Can see two distinct icy layers in the pack. From the top down it’s 2.5” snow, .5” icy layer, 3.5” snow, 1.0” icy layer 2.5” snow. 10” total snow depth. Took a core and letting it melt down to see what the water content shows.
  20. Insane. As much of a punch as lake effect can offer I still want to experience a storm like this one day.
