  1. I don’t know what’s more impressive… the sheer number of tornado warning boxes up at once or the fact their is thunder snow currently inside that same tornado watch box.
  2. Had a few thoughts as were talking about this lack of snow. I looked at the past 80 years of seasonal totals for BUF to compare the decades against each other. For the most recent decade 2010 (which I think most would say has been our snow drought) we were only what work down to 4" below normal for the 80 year period. 2010 was right in the middle and saw 4 decades higher and 3 decades lower. This is first bar graph. Second graph I broke things down a little different. Since the decades comparisons shows were are not really missing that much snow why does it seem that way. My thought is the snow is shifting months. I broken the decade totals down into monthly subtotals and compared those against the season total to come up with the percent of snowfall for the season that fell within a certain month. First thing that I see is November as the only month that has seen a decade over decade decline going from 15% of the seasonal totals to less than 7% now. I'm starting to wonder if this trend is now also bleeding into early December impacting that month as it saw a sharp decline in 2010. On the flip side January and February are now becoming our core snow months, in terms of the percent of our seasonal total that fell that month. Does that make sense? Thoughts?
  3. Actually I think it was this fire in North Tonawanda. First alarm was toned out at 4:05pm. When you single frame the radar you first see the plume at 4:03pm. Fire was declared fully involved 50 minutes later at 4:55pm which would line up with the radar times. Probably just looking more impressive with the winds.
  4. Well it’s tomorrow! Guesses? For comparison here is what the Steel Plant Fire looked like on radar back in 2016.
  5. Storm damage survey around the harbor this morning. BW check out the debris on the break wall. Guess we left at the right time, would have hurt getting pelted with those stones.
  6. Wow… Home on Hoover Beach in Hamburg literally ripped apart.
  7. Become a wind lover instead of a snow hater? Maybe Delta can give you some pointers. High wind events seem to be our new bread and butter. 4 of our top 7 Seiche events have occurred over the past 2 years now.
  8. Great chase today for sure. I’ll upload the go pro footage tomorrow but here’s a couple shots I got with my phone.
  9. 10.57’ will be the official crest of the Seiche today at Buffalo Harbor. That will put todays event as the 6th highest level on record.
  10. OMG! BW that’s where we just were, the huge Cargill grain silo! Damn I wanna go back down and see this!
  11. Coast Guard station hit a peak gust of 70 mph at 3:42pm. Water level peaked just over 10’… 126” at 5:42pm. Saw quite a bit of flooding in the first ward on my ride home but back in South Buffalo not seeing any power outages or any damage at all. Was hard even spotting any downed limbs. Can’t wait to run through the video later tonight. I’m still shivering here trying to warm up.
  12. What time are you heading down? I’m shooting for about 2ish to get there. Thinking about starting at Wilkinson point and maybe try and intercept the front on top of that hill.
  13. Yes was forcast to have some strong SE-S winds early this morning out ahead. Should die down for a bit and actually stay rather quite until the front roars in. Still feeling like 3-330 will be the start of things.
  14. I've been checking in on this in and out... is this the same tornado cell that is still going from earlier?
  15. I think so. Looks like a strong storm line will develop ahead of the main front and may actually bring the strongest winds some time between 3pm-4pm. Might be a nice shelfie rolling up the lake tomorrow! Core high winds themselves should roll in just after this and roar for a good two hours thinking 4pm-6pm. Lake Erie seiche should hit it's peak height between 6pm-7pm. BUF AFD is mentioning the lake levels could now approach 11 feet. BW and Delta those times look about right to you? Going to head down to Furhman Blvd around 2ish tomorrow to scout out and setup.
  16. So wanted to look at the all time record high lake levels on Lake Erie at Buffalo and was surprised that the event last November was actually ranked #2 at 11.12 ft. Was curious about the #1 event from December 1985 and found this article. 60 mph+ winds, lot of lake shore flooding down in Erie PA, 2 Oswego College students get swept off a break wall...
  17. Where will you be heading? Have to work Saturday but going to try and sneak out early to be down to the Outer Harbor by 4 as that seems to be the general look for the timing on the front to roll through. If this track and intensity holds this could end up being a pretty significant wind event here.
  18. Yes! There was a loud line of storms that came through in the dead of night here, had the 737 at the airport get pushed into a jetway. that storm was crazy! 2008 Low pressure over upper Michigan continued to deepen as it tracked across the northern Great Lakes to Quebec. Winds increased to 25 to 40 mph with gusts measured to 75 mph. Trees and power lines were downed by the strong winds. Utility companies reported tens of thousands of customers without power in locations scattered throughout region. Crews from Ohio, Connecticut and sections of eastern New York traveled to the area to help with power restoration which, in some cases, took several days. Several homes and automobiles were damaged by falling trees and limbs. The strong winds flipped five tractor trailers including ones on Route 12 in Denmark and on Route 81 between LaFargeville and Clayton. In Great Bend, the winds lifted a carport and deposited onto the roof of a home. Northwest Monroe County was particularly hart hit with four homes deemed uninhabitable. Several school districts closed or released students early because of the winds. A powerful cold front crossed the region during early morning hours. The thunderstorms that accompanied the front produced damaging wind gusts measured to 75 mph. Trees and power lines were downed by the winds throughout the region. At the Buffalo Airport, a Boeing 737 on the ground was blown into a jet way and damaged. Several homes and automobiles sustained damage by falling trees and limbs. In Watertown, a roof was blown off a building.
  19. Slowed down here at the moment but the change in flake size today has been incredible. Went from sugar grain type flakes to these massive parachute bombs in 3 hours time.
  20. I might be a tad north. I tossed my roof top go pro on to record in case we get any.
  21. Yeah Baby!!! 5 minute Jeb walk and got myself some THUNDERSNOW!
