Here's a taste of what the traffic will be like (from 2017):

I went to Williamston, SC for 2017 outside of Greenville and it took 10 hours to get back to Raleigh, NC after. The worst traffic is right after, not before without question.

As someone that grew up in the area, I second what @olafminesawsaid. I’d also recommend considering Doughton Park, the Stone Mtn area or Ennice. All do really well in these CAD escarpment events.

Yeah I don't have the time to get up all the way to Ennice. I think Fancy Gap is my best bet for now. I always am weary because these ZR events tend to end sooner than forecast a lot of times.

Might as well drive a little further up to fancy gap. Should be a couple degrees colder.

Yeah that is true. I am going to follow today's trends and make a call on go or no go. You really need to get to that 0.2 inch plus territory to make pics worthwhile.

Hard to stay optimistic given how awful the past few winters have been. If we've been struggling up here, imagine how our piedmont and coastal friends are feeling. I'd just like one big storm to track. We haven't even had that in forever.

It is awful. Last year we had no measurable snow and this year isn't working out so far.

Just booked to Springfield OH and will proceed N from there.

Texas would be better but good luck to anyone trying to drive out to totality from the metroplex.  That's gonna be a sh*tshow to say the least.

I am going to Killeen area for that reason.

I would never ski without a helmet. For both safety and comfort reasons. They are so much warmer than a hat and provide protection from not just a hard fall but the random branch. My son took a hard fall at Stratton maybe 15 years ago on a steep, icey slope that would have scrambled his brains if he hadn't been wearing a helmet. I will actually be wearing a new Mips technology helmet tomorrow when I hit the slopes in BC.

It has certainly saved me more than once. I would never ski without one again. I rarely see anyone without one these days.

I started using a helmet 4 years ago, when my oldest started skiing.

When I started skiing in 1990, the only helmets you saw were on the ski racers.  Now, everyone is wearing them.

Yep this is definitely accurate. Helmets are also helpful in keeping warm.

  8. I used to drive this route to ski Smuggs weekly when I lived in Winooski (which I miss every day). This is just mind blowing to me! This scene should look like a Christmas card this time of year. Wow talk about a Super Grinch! Just awful! I really hope people get the help they need.
