If that run is on to something I better book a room in western NC.

I didn't get up there for this one but enjoy! Wet snow always yields the best photos when it pastes everything.

Some good news on the 12z GFS. The little disturbance dropping down from the lakes right at the start of Feb tries spark off a coastal low. The disturbance has been consistently modeled but the coastal re-development hasn't been as much. This run brings some precip into the Piedmont. As far as snow, it is borderline but not impossible.

Low of 67.4! That’s gotta be one of the warmest lows in January ever here
Yeah that is nuts for sure. It has to be a record.

For the most part we have been at average or below. We just haven't had a synoptic storm line up. But our friends to the west sure did make out nice. This warm up has been well advertised for over a month. This is not a surprise and people who act like this is a surprise do not follow this hobby well.
Exactly once an opportunity is blown it is hard to get it back in the southeast.

Even the NC Mountains cashed in on the upslope with highs in the single digits and lows of -5F to -10F above 3500ft. Some air and ground shots I grabbed while up there.

Some quick ground shots I took when in Banner Elk and on Beech Mountain (edited from raw images on my phone):

Yep and I hate it, to be perfectly honest it is worse than the Southeast thread getting skunked on a storm

Which is why I went to the NC Mountains today where it was in the single digits (3F on Beech Mountain) and after a second upslope event with 20:1 ratios they had 18+ inches on the summit. Banner Elk had around 10 inches or so. Drifting made it hard to gauge exact numbers. A few aerials from the day trip.

Why/how could you leave that for our weather today?!
Believe me I didn't want to. I spent quite a few hours taking pictures and enjoying it but I have obligations at home as well. It was awesome though for sure.

I am about to head back to Raleigh but still snowing in Boone.

I'm guesstimating about 10 in to a foot on the ground in Banner Elk at least where I was walking around
