  1. Latest RAP is loltastic...runs warning criteria snow right up to Trenton, NJ. DC gets closed to a foot of snow. No way that happens.
  2. Definitely fighting some dry air here in Baltimore County...radar would make you think it's coming down at a good clip but it's just very light off and on powdered sugar. Seems like folks in Arlington and southern Fairfax County at the lower elevations in DC are encountering the same thing. Really hope we can moisten the column sooner rather than later.
  3. 00z IAD RAOB should be interesting. I'm thinking there a small pocket or two of dry air lingering.
  4. Quick dusting on everything. It's like powdered sugar.
  5. In the last 2 frames of the 0.5° base reflectivity, you can see a band setting up over the beltway in Montgomery/PG county.
  6. SN- at my home in Reisterstown. Very small flakes.
  7. Regional radar over West Virginia is showing the precip filling in quickly.
  8. Based off DOT cams, it's a steady snow west of I-270.
  9. Thicker low deck of clouds moving in now in Reisterstown. Looks almost like a proper winter day.
  10. Looks like your first legit warning criteria event since you moved to Maryland.
  11. This works well too: https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/
  12. Good to see stuff is making it to the ground quickly...even with the lighter returns. 12z RAOB from IAD only had a thin area of really dry air just below 850 mb so it shouldn't take too long to get rid of that.
  13. For the northern folks, the LWX 1.5° base reflectivity scan seems to show some echoes increasing to your west from Cascade MD through Taneytown...looks like the northern jackpot zone is beginning to take shape.
  14. Based off DOT cams, it appears as though some steady but very light snow has started in Glen Echo, Cabin John and Potomac.
  15. Remember to report your first flakes using mPING app on your smart phone. The data help radar meteorologists and operational staff understand where precipitation is making it to the ground!
  16. Thicker mid level cloud deck moving in up here in Reisterstown. 32/19
  17. Thicker cloud deck about to move in....bye sun!
  18. So many great stories ITT...absolutely love it. Helps us get through these dark times.
  19. Agreed. I started in meteorology but transferred to Geography and then went through the MS, Emergency Management program at Millersville. It's lead to a decent career. Big message is that you have to be comfortable with moving a fair distance for your first job. You might have to move cross country for a 'meh' position to put your time in. If you're going to stick with meteorology that's great...seriously the field isn't all doom and gloom like some make it out to be. You just have to find what keeps your interest going and push through hard. Take internships, do research and don't forget about working started help desk positions for things like Raytheon (they make AWIPS) or Michael Baker. My RA in college started in the private sector and it boosted his career quickly once he got into NWS.
  20. How do you place the soap? In a pantry hose or something?
  21. Heh, that western band is literally hugging I-91 for all it's worth.
  22. Man this is a beautiful event to witness, too bad it's not hitting DC -> BOS. Congrats all.
