Smoke is quite bad today - otherwise a very perfect summer day.

It is high level here but making it seem like evening.   Keeping temps in the mid 70's

Did not "seem" bad at all here. Sky was partially blue with a white tint but it did not seem noticeable while working outside this afternoon. Not complaining. :)

    High here was 81.

The other thing I do not like down there is the road condition.  There are "lines in the road" every few feet so the road noise goes way up.   But, do not be shy...you can admit that you like it:

It is the people not the road that bothers me as to I95....travelling down through western VA on I81 is worse, IMO.   Rolling roadblocks when trucks underestimate how steeps the plentiful hills are.

Every time I drive down 95 to Florida I always "relax" once I get below Richmond...I've always considered the Carolinas and Georgia as relaxing parts of the trip as traffic is usually much thinner down that way, but at the same time, some of the very worst of the accidents that we've encountered are also in those areas. Lots of open space for people to start doing goofy things behind the wheel.

Look at the surface analysis from this morning. I believe higher CAPE was just about where those storms blew up. Sun rises very early. Amazing what just a few hours can do.

Thanks - I guess this might be a situation where models/maps > forecasts as what has just transpired was most certainly NOT what was expected...we were to get a round of light to moderate rain this morning followed by a 2nd round later today with scattered storms.

Lanco is tornado alley for the North East.

People talk about that in other subs on this board. Never understood it but I can drive 15 minutes from work and go through multiple locations that were hit within the past 20-25 years. We get 'em and I don't like it.

  6. Honest question to anyone who might know - what would cause the explosive development of severe weather that just occurred? There was a decaying line of stratiform rain moving east, it's still early in the day without sun so it wasn't related to heating/instability like we'll likely get later...so why did those storms blow up over southern York county/nothern MD and then continue to grow as they moved east/northeast?

So I can't get in touch with my parents. They had a really really bad storm late last night. Have some friends driving an hour out to check on them, so send good vibes please and hope it's just a cell tower down there.

God that sucks. Really hope all is well and you get good news soon.

It is indeed minimizing as it comes out of the higher elevations.  Fingers crossed it still gives you a good grass watering.

I just posted MU's thoughts - I don't see any way that we get his amounts from that line over here in Lanco. I'm shocked he went that high for this initial round.
