  1. Its was funny to see, at least for a short time the Delware coast to E New England the warmest places in the US. Low 60s in NYC, 20s in GA..teens in spots, 30s into FL.
  2. Somers in northern Westchester recorded a 71 mph gust at their mesonet. Low 60s gusts in Queens, Bronx then it drops off some towards LI for whatever reason.
  3. Looks wild outside. A couple parking signs took flight. Anything loose is on the move. Sideways torrential rain
  4. Dec 92 was the most memorable weather event of my life until Sandy. At least when it comes to non snow events. (However it did snow inland I believe). I didnt go to school that day but I learned the concept of "storm surge" watching footage of ppl trying to walk though white caps in Lower Manhattan, rescues on the FDR, and houses fall into the ocean in Brooklyn. Most major bridges had to close and subways crippled with flooding. Little did I know I was 4 yrs away from the Blizzard of 96 and the only snow days of my life, as NYC schools closed for the 1st time since the 70s, before I was born. It was mind blowing stuff, especially since this was before the unprecedented snowfall run starting in the 2000s. That's another topic though.
  5. Anyone know what the median snowfall is? Espically for the current 30 yr normals and the new normals coming out soon I saw somewhere the avg snowfall across the US is about 28", which would make NYC a very average place for snow. Of couse there is alot of ways to get to the same totals, I think it can be more feast or famine here near the coast compared to others regions. We avg more annual precip than alot of places so even though it feels like alot of pieces have to come together to get a good snowfall here, we get alot of opportunities. We're like a mediocre 3 pt shooter who gets alot of shots up. The midwest away from lake effect areas pile up snow more efficiently but efficient isnt always fun.
  6. Snow, 36. Coating existing snowpack, no accumulation otherwise. Had a few short power outages yday with muliple smoking/sparking manholes around.
  7. Final snow showers leaving Glen Island Park, New Rochelle toward Pelham bay park, Bx
  8. The ratios were pretty good too, alot of snow with temps well down in the 20s, at least for the Park and N&W from there.
  9. I hope they measure again before it compacts, periods of moderate snow continue through the morning. Right now it looks the best is just north and just south of midtown but they were under it earlier.
  10. This "last" band of snow has been going for hours now. It weakens, then builds back time to time, but its not really pulling away since before sunrise.
  11. I saw news reports a little while ago saying 10" at Central Park. I haven't seen any offical NWS update after 1am with 6.5". 10" sounds reasonable. The wind makes it hard to measure but it looks about a foot give or take an inch here.
  12. Light fluffy snow then a layer of sleet then more fluffy snow on top. Its been low to mid 20s the entire time upper Manhattan, Bx. Its been several degrees milder into Queens, BK, so I'd imagine wetter, heavier snow there.
  13. Now moderate sleet, mixing with snow. Wind is really howling off the Sound now. Sleet was loudly blasting east/north facing windows.
  14. Dry slot gets close then seems like a moderate band move in off the Atlantic just in time for those east of SI/Sandy Hook. Dont know how long that will hold up.
  15. Its down to 23, didnt expect that. Light fluffy snow over here piling up fast. If you believe NWS and most media outlets, should be a foot or more in NYC from midtown and points north
  16. Thats what they were forecasting anyway, so perhaps it may not make it to BK, southern Queens for the most part.
  17. Light snow now, in southern end of New Rochelle, on the Sound for this one. Wonder if I will see some coastal flooding tonight. Some actual waves out there now. Few miles away in the Bx, showing 28, dew 17.
  18. the airport only reported a Trace, but reports of accumulation in the city especially in NW DC. Adams Morgan around an inch, increasing the further you go into NW DC.
