  1. Alot of wind with that storm. Tracking north of I 95/Cross Bronx. Heavy rain, now light and looks like the sun ready to come back out just to the west. Headed toward the Sound now
  2. I heard they closed beaches atlantic beach to Jones beach now
  3. Mostly cloudy, windy, 92/71. Some rain crossed the GWB. Radar says a downpour is a couple blocks away. Centered around Fordham, crossing the Botanical Garden now.
  4. If they were to hold Central Park and LGA would set record high minimums. 81 at the Park, and 85 at LGA. Old record 78 at both.
  5. Must be one of the hottest nights we've had. Currently 85/72 HI 91. low waw 83. What's really impressive is how many pws stayed in the 80s beyond NYC. Its usually limited to the most urban neighborhoods and doesnt extend much beyond 5 boros if at all. It looks like lots of 80s to just short of white plains (the actual city not to the airport area)
  6. Hempstead closed their beaches. Also reportedly a woman was killed in a shark attack in Maine today.
  7. High was 97, humidty not terrible and a strong breeze made it hot but manageable. Now, return of the dew. 93/71. 5th time 95+
  8. wind has turn more SW and very gusty. dew point is up slightly, 97/67, heat index 102.
  9. yeah CPK got nearly 1.5" rain from a downpour few days ago. Without a lot of sun or air flow getting there it takes a while to dry out. Meanwhile I got just a few light showers that dried up right away. Anyway, I've found that I often feel hottest outside of Manhattan in general. All the tall buildings cast so much shade, at least south of 96th, midtown etc. Very urban but low rise areas in the other boros feel the worst to me, some streets are just baking with little shade to be found for blocks on end. The million+ new trees planted from the Bloomberg era to now may help, but they tend to be shorter cherry blossoms type trees, at least around here. They look nice but don't give much shade. I wonder if that many additional trees over the years is enough to have an appreciable effect on humidity in the city. I do know there are a lot more and wider variety of birds than in the past. another 90 here, 93/64
  10. Went to Robert Moses today, and water was much cooler than last couple weeks. It was turquoise bath water not that long ago. Was back to chilly brown water today. May of got a little warmer as the day went on and lost some of that brown look too. I suppose as winds went more southerly. It was pretty gusty W to WSW wind to start. Water pretty rough too.
  11. Yeah NYC has been (barely) humid subtropical for a while now. NYT probably worded it like that because it makes for a more attention grabbing headline. The substance of article is legitimate, but the headline is a little marketing spin. But it worked, it featured on sites like Gothmaist now.
  12. not much here, but nice storms moving through DC, lighting up national park
  13. some occasional drizzle/light rain, 86/75. High was 91, heat wave survives to day 6. Heat waves continues at LGA, EWR, TEB,
  14. 90/74 HI 98. LGA was 88 I think they reach 90 by next update. The Park was 84 Either way maybe we cook something good up this evening
  15. Wow I just realize how much rain they got. Big difference a few miles north more like 0.1 to maybe .25 around here. We'll see. NWS is close to have the next heat wave just connecting with this one making just one extra long heat wave. 2 89 degree days forecasted before another stretch of 90s. I doubt it, but it'd be interesting if LGA or EWR managed to pull that off.
  16. Con Ed advising Bronx customers, mainly east of the Bronx river, to conserve power as much as possible.
