  1. +0.2° departure for the summer. You have to have a little ± departure allowed to be still called normal. I would call that NAW (normal and wet) not WAW.
  2. They are in the midst of quite a dry spell also which might be helping things warm up more than usual.
  3. I lived through some of those seasons growing up in SE Ohio where the hills across the valley were almost not visible due to smoke. Not fun. Hoping for some rain soon for those folks. I have heard some people on wells are resorting to hauling water and have had relatives say the cracks in the ground are getting quite large.
  4. Those clouds that blew up over Lake Michigan are heading straight for me. Pretty cool satellite shot showing what is happening.
  5. Coolest July in 9 years at GRR. Enough rain to keep things green as well as overall cool temperatures. Except for the couple stretches of high humidity it was as Alek would say - "Best climo"
  6. At -2.0°F for the month it looks like GRR is headed for a below normal July. The end of the month will eat into that a little but I don't see the negative departures being completely erased. Not bad when earlier this summer the general thought was a hot summer.
  7. Unless it is ridiculously hot out after the event and it knocks out your power. I am sure I am not the only one with this experience in the past.
  8. You have had 8 days of 90+ this year according to your signature. Stop complaining. You have already surpassed 2014 and 2017 and it won't take much to match or exceed 2023.
  9. Baraga Plains must have a growing season of about 2 weeks.
  10. What a difference a year makes. Last year month to date GRR had 0.82" of rain. This year 3.73". The difference in lawns and gardens is very visible.
  11. Three day's of 90+ was all GRR recorded. Spartman would have been on here ranting about the two 89's we had.
  12. A random pop up thunderstorm just skirted my area yesterday. We had full sunshine with a quick heavy downpour. 1/8 of a mile away it was dry. The rainbow was spectacular though. Less than 0.1" of rain though so it won't do much given the current heat.
  13. https://www.mlive.com/weather/2024/06/why-was-there-no-warning-with-deadly-michigan-tornado.html
  14. GRR mentioned the possibility of frost in the norther sections of the forecast area. I have to think Gaylord and some of the surrounding areas are in line for a frost or two this week.
  15. Pretty good soaker and a great light show going in here over lunch. A little better than I expected. GRR mentioned weaking as they came on shore and moved east so I wasn't expecting too much.
  16. Had a low of 39 today and 37 yesterday. Lake Michigan is helping out for sure.
  17. Blooms started on the breadford pear trees this weekend in my back yard. Lots of green buds starting to show up on trees. It won't be long before fruit growers will be sweating every forecast for frost.
  18. 5° drop at my house across the lake from Madison.
  19. Sounds like an interesting next 24+ hours in the UP.
  20. My brother was in college right outside of Xenia and the clinic on campus had their roof torn off. Many students went into Xenia the following day to help clean up and it was every bit as bad as the pictures and description you hear about.
  21. Looking like 3"-5" overnight and tomorrow. High end totals could push us out of even a top 20 least snowy winter. Crazy a winter this bad can look a little better than it seems when comparing to past duds. It is hard to imagine a winter with less snow than this but the historical record would say about 1 in every 6 has been this bad or worse.
  22. The great plains are on whole different level when it comes to wind.
